Need help, What should I do?

Okay it has come to this. Please keep in mind that UO Assist is the only program I use with UO.

Now, tell me like it is.
Do I quit this game after 9 years and take it for what it was worth and leave with many good memories from UO,

or should I join the other %99 of the game population and run speedhacks and cheats?

It has really gotten to the point where people need to CHEAT in this game in order to have any chance at all in reaping the rewards of UO, especially in the case of pvp.

When two mages duel and one of them plays UO the way it was intended and the other is using speedhacks/casting hacks/client mods/and pvp scripts, the person who is playing without those "items" will be at such a disadvantage that it has become sort of a sad joke.

I have played UO for a long time and I have sat here for years while the dev team does nothing to change this huge margin of of unbalanced pvp. I am the guy who always steps up and backs up the devs whenever I can but here I am now saying that this crap is totally rediculous.

So here I come to you 'community of UO' and I humbly ask your opinion. Do I leave and move on, or do I continue to play UO (a game which I love) and start using these programs myself? Please give me an honest answer 'UO community' and dont be afraid to tell the truth. People that I have been friends with in the game for years have never ran any sort of "modifier progs or hacks," but they are starting too now because there is no other way to compete. What do yall say?

What do you say devs? Step up and tell me if youd rather have me here speedhacking or not at all. And remember that when you answer me, you are answering thousands of others with the same prediciment. I didnt spell check this because I simply do not care to take the time to. If yall dont care, why should I? I will either be gone or I will level the field myself, but one thing I will not do is fight EA's battle against speedhacking anymore.

GOOD DAY!

false.

there are other games with better, less frustrating pvp. i'd recommend taking a break and trying out a couple other games. seriously, it's nice playing a game and knowing with 100% certainty that the other players aren't cheating.

To Zuckuss: I quit for the very reason you started this thread (amongst a laundry list of other reasons also). I enjoy PvP too much to just PvM, and crafting/fishing/merchanting/everything else you can do in UO just isn't my thing. I wasn't going to cheat to enjoy the things I liked. For the most part, I enjoyed killing cheaters, 'cause it makes the kill that much better, but as you said, you shouldn't have to fight that fight in the first place.

I 2nd this. I would just take a break for now. Give WoW or LOTRO a try, you might be surprised.

I am glad I left UO when I did. I invested too much personally & financially in it, I wouldn't want a bad memory of it, especially since I had so many good times and met so many great people in that game.

Re: Need help, What should I do?

Give up on the whole fel sceene and join a good RP/PvP group... where you get to PvP, PvM, roleplay and be a part of a real community... Most RP groups have rules in place against cheating and many other things... it's more about the true PvP of it... the battles have meaning more than just the next kill.... It's better than giving up or giving in. Some folk think that RP communities are closed and seperate but most times that's not true... they would be happy to help you get started... If you don't know how to roleplay most communities are pretty good at helping out there too.. Can it be a bit dull somtime... well yes but so can many things... however often times the communities are close nit mature and understanding folk.

Re: Need help, What should I do?

If you play to beat everyone at everything instead of playing to be with friends, family and a part of the whole picture (community) then I guess it would lose its 'flavor' ... personally I don't like knowing there are cheaters (no matter how they do it) in our 'community' but just as in real life I don't 'join the gang' cause they got more stuff, or got to it quicker, and I certainly don't pack my bags and move ... but thats me and I still enjoy the game ...

As for developers .. if you heard the townhall meeting .. they really did emphasize that they are doing things to combat it .. *come to think of it, I really haven't seen a few known 'scripters' on sonoma in quite a while ... I think they (devs) are working their way up the ladder dealing with the cheaters ... (burning homes, changing duped robes into monks clothing, duped sandals .. poof ... come on give some credit here ... what was a giant snowball is slowly being melted ... perfect no ... but then again UO isn't Utopia Online either. (no game is completely free from problems)

"cookie thumbs up" for their recent efforts and I do believe they are sincere when they say they are determined to stop it as much as possible.

Perhaps you do need a break from UO for a while .. I would rather take that then lower my own standards and become one of those that we loathe and want something done about ... (remember the ones you are complaining about that try to mess it up for everyone else) ..

In the end ... cheaters NEVER win -- they just end up alone.

Re: Need help, What should I do?

Couldn't have put it better than what Queen Mum said.

I will add, that if you're looking for happyness (I like the movie!) ;p in PvP on any MMO, you're looking for a goose laying golden eggs. I have played MANY MMO's all of which have pvp, and none of them brought me satisfaction. What did bring me satisfaction is being with friends and losing/winning together.

Too many problems with pvp in MMO's. Balance, items, item balance, connection speed, computer speed. If you want pvp, you should try a FPS. There may still be cheaters there but at least you don't have to invest hours of time getting your characters gear and skill up.

Since UO:R I have never liked PvP in UO and I chuckle at the so called "red" guilds who run with 7 or 8 blues. They need to give murder counts to all that do damage to the dieing person, not just the person who kills and once you're red, thats it. You're red. No redemption. Way too easy to go back and forth.

Re: Need help, What should I do?

Zuckus: don't duel people on the field :/ not worth it man. PvP is who has the numbers, especially now, as, like you said, so many people use cheats. Now, you might really duel people every so often (there ARE legit people left in the game), but, if you love UO, I'd say, play it the right way, no cheats, and just gank in the field when you come across a cheater (or avoid them). I know that's lame, but it's really the only thing we can do, unless EA steps in to even the playing field. I think most of the cheaters play mages, because of the skill involved, while some mages feel 6/4 chiv dexxers are cheaters no matter what, haha. I pretty much only play mage, and have been accused of hacking by a lot a dexxers ;/. Do you play mage or dex?

But, lol, I think the answer to your Q, as others have stated, is who you like in the game. Because, if you want a game with an even playing field, UO doesn't provide that unless you have numbers. I think the thing a lot of people don't understand is a lot of players think the cheats are legal. EA has the problem of not being able to name cheats, but they should definitely make a statement.

Regardless of the path you choose, losing your personal integrity over a game isnt worth it. Hey if everyone is looting a store during a blackout would you? Although it is "just a game", is cheating, stealing, lying any different? Keep the faith and stick to your morals!
