I decided to start playing again and am amazed and the huge list of skills on the paperdoll scroll now.

What skills nowadays are "big"

I can remember when i last played(its been a few years) that the normal skills (say like GM - eval, mage, resist, tactics swords etc..) were good for a mage, but can anyone give me a breakdown on what the new skill sets that are good to have to make a good character?

Lots of mage/necros, bushido/pallys, ninjitsu is a popluar skill for pvp, there are even ninja mages. Hope this helps.

Thats not easy to answer. You'll wanna decide what you want to do ect. Some skills have "helper" skills (like Eval Int & Magery).

With the amount of skills available, and "soul stones" you can change when you want. But to start with, you really need to decide which way you want to develope, then a better answer can be provided.

Look HERE for several threads talking about skills. A lot of reading but it will be worth it if you don't have to change your template later

thanks for the replies, yea i was unsure of some things (like 8x8 macro'ing on a boat like i did back in the day)

I'm just trying to make a mage, not really one for pvp, but who knows i may someday be, but if im out of mana want to have some other skill to defend myself.

What are the total points you are allowed to have now? Total # of GM's?

700 skill points when first starting. You get a bonus of 5 points for every year you play up to four years. Max total is 720. You can have a seven time GM with a few skills scattered, you can have one skill at 120 and six at GM or you can have 6 X 120 template. And a lot of other combo's in between
