My little boy is growing up....

A couple of weeks ago I asked 'why play' and got my faith (lol) restored. Instead of hopping from toon to toon all the time I'm steadily building up a really nice one Funkily enough my lack of fighting on Mr D. Flagg has helped a lot but eventually when he's 'done' I'd like a fighter, don't know what type, don't care yet but I was wondering something.

When does a warrior or an archer or a paladin 'get good'? I've had a multitude of toons so far - except a paladin, I hate pallys in most games - and I think the most I've had them up to in skills like anatomy, swords etc has been late 60's early 70's at a push. Looking at crafting as a basis I'm guessing mid 80's?

Its just something thats never been mentioned:icon_confused: I can see why though its not necessary to know. Also, and this even stranger, with all chosen skills on a fighting toon maxed out - GM only, scrolls aren't going to be gotten until your a good fighter really or maybe a treasure hunter (buying them or trading them) - what sort of things could be challenged and still allow you a chance to live?

I know stats aren't everything, its how you use them but would a fighter, melee or archer (no invis and energy vortexes for crowd control lol), be able to say... solo a cyclops? or a dragon? maybe wyverns, blood elementals or even give a Titan a run for his/its money?

I also get that partying is easier and fun, I saw 5 people, 2 rune beetles and a drake die in a Rend(?) fight on saturday, that was awesome (not the deaths but the fight was like , Rends kick butt), I love it when you have 2+ people going for the same target, it puts you up a notch yourself. On the other hand being alone although harder, much harder especially as a warrior also gives a sense of satisfaction you can't get from partying (its a different feeling). So yeah this is quickly becoming one for the general discussion, I'll get to the point.

So the question is - after all that babble - when are you 'competent' and when your past 'competent' what sort of limits are you at? Thanks for reading

Re: My little boy is growing up....

You hinted at it when you said "I can see why it's not necassary to know". You can be confident at 50 when fighting things at or below your skill level. Will you be able to solo a cyclop, titan or dragon? Sure you will but not at 50ish skill's . The reason for getting to GM or higher is so that you can be of help to others or so you can solo higher end mobs by yourself. Now don't get me wrong. Skills alone will not do it. You will have to have armour and stats that compliments your skills. So enjoy the process of growing up
