If I'm underpriced, let's have people start posting shard prices.

I find it significant that there are absolutely no turn-in items for sale in Luna on any shard yet (11:20 Mountain). That tells me people are massing stockpiles for inflated sales. If these items were truely going to be rare/hard-to-get you can bet they would have already hit a vendor in Luna.

Thanks to the people who replied with substance - let's start a good discussion!

Im somewhat dissapointed you viewed my OP as a flame. Actually I was limited by my study hall bell and had to finish a brief comment about your 10gp theory and planned on finishing it later (now).

As I was saying, gold has no literal value over points. Assuming that the cost of the rewards are determined by the cost of the turn-in items used to get them, I would price the items as following.

Current Price Guide (by my opinion)
sashes: 1.5-2m
snake boots: 1-2m
earrings: 500k
sherry statue: 750k (may have a good resale value later due to its unpopularity)
shirts: 100k-200k per
Armour pieces: 3m-5m per

Assuming that there will always be more of the lesser turn-in rewards than the higher-end ones, that will also determine their end value.

As for later inflated resale value, it happens with everything. The thing you fail to realize is that most luna investors were buying cursed arties at the last second vs having stock piles on hand. Meaning they may only be collecting what they need or certain items for later resale value (armour/sashes etc).

Lets also not forget that there is hinted to be a second turn in. People may be saving the rest of their bulk of points/turn-in items for the second run of rewards. Another factor that will determine the prices.

Currently, it is too soon to establish a solid price guide. What I posted is by what I believe to be my accurate observations over the past day.. It was silly to start a thread like this this early. Ask again in 3-4 weeks and you might get more solid results.

Edit:

I obtained the whole suit of armor (discluding seperate helms/female pieces) for 12m. I paid 100k per cursed arti prior to the turn in. Considering the arties are worth more, this may influence the prices to be more than my first guess.

Re: My attempt to price turn-in items

I respectfully disagree that we could assume any such thing. The value of the items before the turn-in was official has no bearing, because those old prices were based off of the assumption that the said items had only their then-present level of usefulness (or lack thereof). As soon as the turn-in was live, all of these items sold out immediately and (at least on my shard) there are no more to be had at old pricing. This immediate sellout may or may not have occurred if the prices had been far higher, we will never know. As of the moment, at least on my shard, Berserker's Scythes are selling for 2mil each, for example, and YES they do sell! It takes TEN of these to obtain one armor piece thus the fair market estimate of 20mil at this point in time.

Re: My attempt to price turn-in items

actually if you had read my entire post, I went on to say that the price changes of turn-in items may influence the prices.

And if you noticed, I based my observations off the CURRENT prices. Not tomorrows, next weeks, or next months

Edit:

oops. forgot to mention I in the last post that I was refering to the current price of turn-in items, not prior.

Edit 2:

also note, my entire post is theory (assumption). I wouldn't take it literal for another few weeks as I mentioned. Its too early to conduct this type of survey and get accurate results until we get a good understanding at how many items are in circulation and on hand available if you were to spam for it (at a determined value).

Re: My attempt to price turn-in items

Ah, the glory of virtual economics! This is precisely the type of discourse I had hoped to generate!

I think the 37M price tags I've seen are vastly over-inflated and represent precisely the sot of profiteering we've all come to expect for a new item - remember the heyday of doom stealables? However, there will still be some people who pay that price simply because they can do so without blinking.

Before I reached my current wealth level (thank you, IDOC from heaven), even 100K was tough to pay. Now, unless something is over 1M, I rarely blink. The presumed billionaires in this game likely don't even notice price tags under 10M. And yes, those people are out there...otherwise, where did the 17 *trillion* ill-gotten gold come from when it was removed from the game a few years ago?

But back on topic:

@Pickaxe: Where is the Sherry the Mouse statue (vendor name?). It will help me pinpoint its Cliloc...

Incidentally, what is the turn-in value of rubble?

Re: My attempt to price turn-in items

Found it:

Sherry the Mouse Statue:
Error (MegaCliloc) : StringId Not Found : 1080171
16 for sale
750k - 2.5M

I think the statue is 10K points, which gives us: 75:1 to 250:1

Re: My attempt to price turn-in items

Another note, and an insight into the workings of my brain:

I think this is the best opportunity we've had recently to observe the state of the UO economy. I wish I had the time to chart the rise and fall of item prices. While it wouldn't necessarily tell us anything concrete, it would be interesting. It might also help the devs develop items that are of interest to the playerbase in the future.

Re: My attempt to price turn-in items

Your off base on your price Pete. I too have a set on Napa and all I used to turn in for it was cursed arties. When the Mag invasion was happening the beserkers on the Fel side would drop in 6 hits (CW and night reaper) and I averaged 2-5 arties per drop.

Saying that the "time" involved is worth 20M per piece maybe flies if you turned in all planeshields and swords.

Re: My attempt to price turn-in items

Again - the above comment is precisely why I chose to use Cursed Artifacts as the basic premise of my estimates. The time required for planeshield/sword turn-in is 1.5 orders of magnitude than using CArtys.

Look at that! I just coined two new terms in one sentence: "half an order of magnitude" and "CArty!"

Re: My attempt to price turn-in items

Hi again Elb, thank you for your input. However, that phase of the invasion only lasted a very short time at least on the Trammel side (about 5 hours or something, tops, which I totally missed). I played all of the rest of the Invasion and received two cursed artifacts. I don't think *everyone* has the vast supplies of these that you may have access to, thus we use the shields, swords, and rubble for the most part. And scythes @ 10 each piece....and these are selling for around 2mil each. Consider yourself fortunate.
