Maybe you can help with my connection problem...
I have not been able to play UO for about a week or so - I go to log in, choose 2D and type in my username and password. When I hit enter, I go to verifying account and it just .... keeps verifying the account. It never errors out and my PC does not lock up.
I've tried a whole host of things, but I really would like to play UO again sometime soon LOL I did check my accounts via uo.com login area and both are active and billing is current. sio |

Re: Maybe you can help with my connection problem...
It may be something messed up in the patch files. This happened to me when a patch was not fully installed.
click start >my computer >local disk c: >program files *search for a folder either named ultima online or EA Games >once in that folder, open the ML client and search for the patch folder. >once in the patch folder, delete any files in that folder because they're corrupted transfers. if theirs no files in that folder, I suggest re installing UO. Its a downsider but Its also happened to me. It does suck losing macros and all the game presets but its better than not playing at all  Your problem though may be unrelated to this. It could be due to a firewall, proxy settings, or even your virusscanner. Try turning off your scanner or firewall and see if that lets you. If that doesnt work, it might be your internet and packetloss. I'd suggest asking a technician or email UO bugs etc. you might get a better solution or straight up answer ![]() |

Re: Maybe you can help with my connection problem...
- To save all your UO macro's, find the /desktop directory, which has account/shard/character info in it.
Just copy the whole desktop folder to another place. Then copy/move it back after a reload. It will save desktop(game icons) placement and all your macro's. If you're not getting to the shard selection screen, double check your firewall/router settings to make sure the ports not been changed or blocked for UO. If you play on PRS's then something may have been borked up that will need to be corrected with some other files. (Don't play em, so don't know whats been changed). Double check and make sure you have Read/Write permissions on the drive where UO is installed. Make sure your not out of diskspace for the SwapFile and/or UO Cache files. (clearing your browsers history & cache can help there; especially if you use M$IE for the browser) Its also safe to delete the file in the UO Install directory called "patchlog" (think thats the name with no file extension). It can get rather large with all the patching. It will automatically be recreated next time a patch goes through. Let us know how it goes.

Re: Maybe you can help with my connection problem...
I'm guessing you use a router to connect to the internet ? This is the likely explanation for your problem. You will need to open up ports 7775 and 7776 on your router and point them to your UO computer's network IP address. My friend had this problem and this solution fixed it. Worth a try

I was thinking about mentioning that earlier. But when this usually happens to me, its never been my router. I always had to reinstall ultima because patches were messing up and corrupting. Good point though. |

Re: Maybe you can help with my connection problem...
Are you on your own home provider? (ie: not going through a college network, or work network?)
Do you have a personal (software) installed firewall that may now be blocking connections? Do you have a mainstream ISP? A smaller company may internally block those ports. Are you launching UO via UOAssist? Tried it without UOA? Do you know how to, or have you, or any program you know of; modified or monkeyed with the "hosts" file? Are you using McAfee or Norton's internet "suites"? That may have automatically configured to block those ports? Is your system fully patched and legalized by MS? The new WGA process can cause problems. Are you wearing mismatched Socks, or perhaps flip-flops with black socks?

Re: Maybe you can help with my connection problem...
I am having the same problem!
I use to play UO before Third Dawn and have recently decided to come back and play again. I now live in a college dorm and all other games seem to connect and work fine... However, I downloaded the UO client and tried to patch it but it would just time out and say something to the degree of: "“error reading (file name) link from socket” I can not patch or play at all! 1. no firewalls up, 2. antiviruses off 3. did the delete patch files thing 4. reinstalled...defragged hard drive... 5. I don't use a router I did all of these things and still no patch success! after some research, I am very convinced that it has something to do with some 'port' or whatever not being open. I am computer savy, but NOT 'network' savy whatsoever. I live on college campus and the name of our campus internet service is "ResNet". I am curious... what should i do to fix this problem similar to his? whom should i contact and what should i tell them in techno lingo so that they may enable UO connection capabilities? Thank you |
