Re: Making new characters is so expensive

There are too many ways to get/make cheap arrows.

If you want to buy them, start with a pair of scissors and as many bolts of cloth you can buy (10, if you find a tailor selling at 100gp, can be usually found in Zento pretty cheap), cut them into bandies, go sell the bandies to a healer (in Luna, usually they've been bought up to 7-8gp per, so you make 50 bandages for 100gp and sell them for 350-400 gp). Keep doing this run until you have plenty of gold and buy arrows from cheap places (Zento again, or try some outerlying cities that never get touched).

If you are Human, JOAT allows you a decent rate of success to just chop trees and you can make arrows straight from logs, no need to make boards. Fletching takes 0 skill to have a 50% chance to make arrows/bolts.

Corpers are good for training up Archery, they don't move (so you won't die) and drop wood, kill any birds nearby for feathers and carry a fletching kit (no skill needed).

I should also add that Power Scrolls are not the bulk cost of making great characters, armor is. Just putting that out there for all those people saying that they should be in Trammel because of the high cost. The most expensive power scroll pales in comparison to the best armor. And crafting is not at all dependent on what goes on in Felucca.

Total: 26 million spent (58 million could have been spent)

The final total will be higher when I finish figuring out what armor I need to buy. It will only be one or two because I am going to be using some of my regular one.
Thats not a 'new char' thats a completed char. Yeh it is a bit hefty but if your making a char like this then your not a noob and should have a bit of some gold/way of making gold.

Besides, you could spawn for those PS instead of buying them... you don't have to buy em, its just easier.

I haven't gotten a Magery or Resisting Spells scroll at a spawn in what must be 2 years now. And I do a lot of them. Expecting to get them at a spawn was out of the question. It would be like going to Doom and trying to an Ornament before they made it easier.

*shrugs* I average a mage and eval in at least every 40 spawns... plus it gives you gold for the other scrolls you get...

Anyone else believe this post was made purely for the guy to show how good and rich he is? Its like... ooh! look at me, I can afford all this stuff and I only make the best characters straight off the bat! Give us folk a break who plow along and get really excited about a 7x gm character.

This post was made to show how expensive it is to make top of the line characters. I purposefully don't post about my UO wealth and 50 million is nothing to brag about anymore.

Thats bad luck, like I used to have with doom. I didn't get one artie from doom EVER before the drop rate was recently changed, and have only gotten shadow dancers since (as a drop that is). Any arties I have, I have bought (except for those dancers of course).

However I have gotten at least 10 120 mages over the past 2 years, resist is my bogie scroll it seems though, don't get many of them, probably 2 over the same period. Resist would be my least received scroll by a long shot.

It really all comes down to luck (aka the RNG). Oh, and when spawning don't forget the PvP, cos that ain't luck.

Granted however I have spent FAR more time spawning than in Doom.

When I first started up again after a 6 year break, I went immediately to the Champ spawns. Well, maybe not immediately, but we went as soon as my wife and I hit GM magery, bad armor or not.

With our first two champ spawns, we got a 120 magery, 120 resist, 120 archery and 120 mace fighting. We sold it all to fund the rest of my character building.

Now I haven't been to a Fel champ spawn in way too long.

That would mean you would have had gotten 4 out of 4 120s (2 from champions and 2 from protecting yourselves). The chances of that happening are impossibly low.

People are talking like I should be getting a 120 Magery every 3 dozen spawns. I've gotten thousands of scrolls and have only seen a 120 Magery two times I think? The chances of getting a 120 Magery are something like 0.65% at the moment and it used to be lower.
