Magincia - What might have been...
I picked up on what I thought was an interesting topic over on Stratics Europa forum.
Some posters there wanted the defence of Magincia ,Fel, to fail, for the sole reason of it then being different to Trammel, and not the mirror image it had been.I found the posts interesting and hope you enjoy the read and add your own thoughts. Lady Nico, UO Reporter for Stratics started the thread There is no longer a convenient swift passage via Trinsic docks to Magincia in Lake Austin's Felucca facet. My thanks for the boat ride go to Chango Pelon, LA Shard Reporter. It was a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Just wish it had been in more pleasant circumstances. For Fox and others curious as to what might have been had we permitted Felucca, Magincia to be defeated, read on and decide for yourselves whether Europa's choice was a sound one. Desolate would be the overwhelming first impression of Lake Austin's Felucca facet Magincia, and one which only grew on spending more time there investigating. Saddest of all to me, somehow, was the entirely missing docks. Signs of struggle were evident, cannon balls here and there, healer beds with no healers in attendance. The deserted docks seemed the most brutal & disturbing sign of Magincia's isolation. There were no daemon-kind running about celebrating their victory. Nor was there any birdsong or sounds of the sea lapping, I even missed the usually irksome serpents & would have been grateful (if not overjoyed) to see so much as a mongbat. Instead, there is just an eery, blanket silence which seeps into you ever deeper the longer you remain. Black pearl seems to be the only thing able to respawn in the new, desolate Magincia. Well, I say that, although I'm certain I saw oddly spawning dates & coconuts where their trees would have once stood... ![]() ![]() ![]() It's worth stating the obvious here - No guard zone, however, the sole access to or from Lake Austin's Fel Mag at this time is by boat. I've no idea how many pirates swell the ranks of Lake Austin's CoM, but I have little doubt the numbers are about to increase exponentially. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ LucyOfKenton was left somewhat confused by the post, and asked great report but what is the message nico? ~~~~ Lady Nico explained Oh there's no real message other than offering a look-see into what Fox and others said they wanted for Fel, Mag here on Europa. I've not had a chance to hit Europa's Fel, Mag yet today, though if it's like other successful shards, it's been rebuilt. Fel, Mag has not been rebuilt on Lake Austin, Great Lakes & Siege amongst a few others. I'm simply curious really, after the fact, whether what's reflected in my screenshots is something Fox & others really wanted for Europa. ~~~~ The confusion was apparently caused by some shards being rebuilt and others not,as Petra Fydeexplained I *think* you'll find that the buildings re-appeared in several places, briefly, today. I don't think they were supposed to. Draconi described it as 'Lingering time-rift problems no doubt. ' I've a feeling that statement should have been accompanied by a cough and a blush. There are no buildings in any incarnation of Magincia now as far as I know. ~~~~ However Zofinur, beleived this referred to asome thing else Quote:
Wasnt that referring to the missing NPC´s? ~~~~ Petra explained further Since the buildings that had re-appeared on some shards and facets shortly after disappeared again, I'm assuming not. There are no buildings now in Magincia Fel legends and lake austin, where they had been seen and there are no buildings in Magincia on either facet of Europa. I've just been to check. also when Tophouseplotter started a thread entitled 'Soo its Friday Night/Sat Morning .. Event ends.. Okies When do we start the ''trade in''!! to rebuild!! ' Draconi posted it with: Quote:
When Foxread the thread she posted I'm simply curious really, after the fact, whether what's reflected in my screenshots is something Fox & others really wanted for Europa. Thats exactly what I wanted - something unique. Even though there are a couple of other shards that didn't finish things the look of Magincia on Europa would have been unique, with different items left scattered. Instead we will end up exactly where we started before the event: Mirror images in Tram and Fel, both being towns hardly anyone ever visits - particularly Fel. At least if Fel had been destroyed it would have been something of a tourist atttraction, not to mention that it would have been another no-guard-zone Fel town. I still feel the same: A missed opportunity for a unique location on Europa and a permanent memorial of the invasion. And that was traded for the minor distraction of killing an immobile target and collecting four pieces of minor junk. ~~~~ Back to Lady Nico, who posted I *think* you'll find that the buildings re-appeared in several places, briefly, today. I don't think they were supposed to. Draconi described it as 'Lingering time-rift problems no doubt. ' I've a feeling that statement should have been accompanied by a cough and a blush. There are no buildings in any incarnation of Magincia now as far as I know. Bleh. I was so excited Mag had been rebuilt, too. If nothing else, it felt as though we'd made a difference. I saw the restored buildings with my own eyes, and really didn't think to take any screenies of those since I had no notion it was only ghost buildings (in error, too!) that I was seeing. I so hated what happened to Yew and the sorry state it was in until the elves healed it. Again, bleh. ps: I see now why Lucy was so confused!! and Meh, going by your description, Europa's Fel & Tram Magincia's are unique rather than mirror images since their debris & un-rubbled rubbles are strewn in different locations. I was often in Fel Mag, Fox. As well as building up the blank scrolls on the mage vendors for my scribe/mage, my fave scripter was often found behind the Gypsy Wagon (borderline gz) mining the rocks there before the ability to recall was nixxed. The satisfaction was well worth the occasional guardwhack. *I must consider my sins* With the rescue of Fel, Mag, reds may (in time, at least) find the rather convenient red healers there again. Without the rescue, it's just empty and, well...dead. ~~~~~~~~~~ I liked Keno's thoughts on it all Well... Things happen and life goes on. It will in Magencia too... Think that the rift has allowed a point through which the Gargoyles from SA can now traverse the abyss and build another beautiful city - complete with their own unique style of architecture, fauna, flora and wildlife? There was a valiant effort made to save the city but, alas, (just as in rl) not everyone desires the same thing nor has the same level of committment. But few, if any, know what the futures holds and it is the hope of something better that sustains us at times - or the despair of the uncertain that, if allowed, could destroy us too. As an alternative to an SA entry point: Perhaps now there could be another event for donations to rebuild? The higher the amounts/points the more beautiful and unique it could be. But if it holds similar to the Moonglow Zoo then... Again, a difference in the level of committment. (In case anyone is wondering: Yes, I donate to the zoo and, yes, I fought when I could at Mag. Never for an artie - never got one, though I did loot some gold to pay for my arrows on occasion and went through quit a few bandages healing/rezzing others) During the course of the invasion I met some really great people that were there to defend the city, lend a healing hand and some camaraderie (granted, not very many). Perhaps I'm the odd one out here but now I catch myself remembering those good people instead of lamenting the ones that wanted to see the city destroyed or where just there for the "goodies". Maybe it's just a matter of perspective - I can do little to change the ideology of others aside from being myself and enjoying the game. To those with whom I have fought beside I say "Thank you". It has been a wonderful event and it was a pleasure to serve at your side. PS: Of course the whole island could sink too and another even more grand than this one might rise in its place... hmmm... The future is truly bright! ~~~~ Certainly would be a great way of bringing SA into the equasion ![]()
