every so often I run across a mage weapon...-29 mage skill..out side of being able to lv faster in magery, is there any other benifit?
What good is this without spell channeling?...thanks...

umm...if somehow you're unable to cast for whatever reason, at least you can defend yourself for a sec? I dunno

you can use a mage weapon to melee fight also, and do so at a skill level equal to your adjusted magery score. Using this method, you can gain magery while fighting, the same as you would use a sword to gain swordsmanship. With mage weapons lacking Spell Channelling, I would guess this to be their only real purpose.

Aside from that, as you mentioned, you can cast spells from a lower circle to gain magery while using a -skill mage weapon that has spell channel.

Sorry if I hijack this thread, but I got another question concerning mage weapons:

Being a Swordsman with 0 Magery, what happens if I use a Mage Weapon Sword? Will I be fighting with my 120 Swordsmanship, or will it always be overridden by magery?

no affect..only affects magery, not your weapon skill
