Lumberjacking question, need help :)

Hi!

I've just returned to UO after 8 years - On catskills

So figured my first goal is to get some gold for house and stuff to help me grind my main character.

Therefore I thought lumberjacking and making bolts/arrows would start me out good.

I made like 7000-8000 shafts when I hit 65 skill and started to get some rare resources. But what am I gonna do with those? They are only ruining my gain in regular logs?!

I have bowyer/fletching on 50skill so cant do anything with the rare resources....

SO guess my question is: IS there anything ive missed here?

Should I embrace the rare resources? (If so what am I gonna do with them?) or should I lower my skill in lumberjacking to 64 so I dont get the rare resources to get more shafts? Because I think it was the 65 skill that triggered the rare resources.

Kelben....... exactly what are you trying to GM? Lumberjacking or Fletching????? I'm confused.

If your trying to GM lumberjacking then you best be working hard at the new woods..... If you want to GM bowcraft fletching then I would suggest you leave your lumberjacking low at about 50. If you don't want the rarer woods throw them on the ground and move on some happy person will be along later to collect them....

Please note however that later when you want to work with those woods you will need to know how but I think that guages through carpentry. Not real sure on that but I'm fairly sure you need carpentry to work with the special woods.

Re: Lumberjacking question, need help :)

Yes at 65 those additional resources start kicking in, just like they do in mining.

Yes they do cut down on the Regular Wood and that will have an impact on your ability to make Arrows/Bolts.

In the end you may be able to make as much gold from the NON regular resources as the arrows/bolts, IF you can convert them into boards and sell them to players.

Working with the NOH Regular logs uses the Carpentry Skill and it needs to be the same skill level or higher than the Lumberjack skill level to acquire the logs.

Re: Lumberjacking question, need help :)

Im not grinding anything to GM a.t.m, right now all I'm trying is to make something people want to buy.... like arrows and bolts.

But getting rare resources which I dont need instead of regular logs (wood) forces me to make less arrows/bolts than I would if I only got regular logs.

Enigma: I'm not going carpentry I believe, so guess I should keep my lumberjacking beneath 65 skill, to only get more regular wood for arrows and bolts?

Get 3 runebooks.

Mark one rune for each (Fel logging site in remote island location, Fel bowyer, and inside a Fel bank)

Go to the isolated fel island logging site. Chop would until you dry the wood out. That way you have a good chance of spawning higher wood next time.

Sit there and make your bows, whichever you can make at your skill level.

Recall to Fel bowyer. Have a agent macro set up to sell your bows on UO Assist. Sell bows.

Recall into Fel bank. Deposit gold and any rare stuff you collect.

Go back to logging site, and repeat process. You will gain skill in both Lumberjacking and Fletching fast, besides build up gold.

Oh, drop the rare wood at the site when you get it, right by the tree you last drained before making bows.

After hitting every tree, and making bows galore, go back with a llama or beetle and pick up all the rare wood and recall to Britain. Take to lumberman in front of Castle Britain gate and sell to him. Make a UO Assist agent macro to sell the wood as well, unless its Heartwood, Bloodwood, or Frostwood, which you should keep for when you hit GM Fletcher.

By that time you should have a good gold reserve.

Yeah that is the way you should do it if that is the plan.

I am a Returnie for about 3.5 months now (I left when Trammel was about 8 months old).

I did the Leather/Raw Meat trade in Delucia, and now I have found out the Clump of Trees by the entrance to and from the Original UO lands, south of Trinsic The Delucia side), is a great source of lumber (The Tall Pines). The Entrance Delucia side, is at the South West Corner of Delucia.

But from a Lets make Gold, In retrospect, pick up a 100% Lower Reagent Cost Suit, GM Magery, then go to Despise, summon an Earth Elemental and just start kicking butt and looting. Those things dump off 100 to 200+ Gold each and the earth elemental can kill them pretty fast.

An alternate is to find one of the Werewolf spawns in the SE expansion, summon up an Earth Elemental and lure them to a safe kill spot one at a time. These guys drop 900gp+ and one earth elemental can kill maybe 3 or 4 before you need to summon another one. I say this from a Tamer perspective were I could vet the Earth E, I assume one with Focus+Meditation+Magery could as easily Greater heal the Earth Elemental. If I ran into the Elite Ninja guys, I would simply keep a pair of Blade Spirits on them, again they drop on the upside of 900+ gold each. Both of these monsters drop good jewelry and often good items. In my opinion, both are nearly trivial to a Magery+Meditation+Focus character and with a 100% LRC suit that (the 3xGM) can be made almost over night as you wont consume any reagents.

Once you have the Gold+Home base then you can specialize your characters.
