I have issues with it, but I still keep trying, we all should. There are upsides. They have made tremendous progress on it since it's *cough* release. And only thru OUR trying it is it going to improve more. So I'd say, go for the DL and try it a couple of times a week, send in some bug reports and enjoy 2d :-P ![]() ![]() "Careful what you wish for, You just might get it all.... ![]() | Re: KR Top Ten Issues With my widescreen, the title screen of KR (the Hildebrant remake) doesn't fit the widescreen properly at 1920x1200 resolution. It shows the top left portion of the image. Everything else is fine. About the only thing todo with KR I'm not happy with. ![]() |

![]() | Re: KR Top Ten Issues Only 2 things particularly bugging me atm. 1) Navigation maps don't work. They fixed treasure maps (sort of), but these have the same problem. 2) On both smithing and crafting gumps, the RH scroll bar doesn't work, therefore I can't make all items in some categories. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: KR Top Ten Issues When the scrollbar doesn't work, it helps to try the scroll-wheel on your mouse which usually works. All of the scroll bars in KR for me range from notoriously hard to impossible to grab. I guess if you don't have a mouse-wheel you're SOL! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: KR Top Ten Issues To this day, this is still my #1 complaint about KR. It's slightly fixed IF the following conditions exist: 1. the item you want to put on the floor is in your backpack (and not, for example, in the pack of your beetle). And, 2. you first drag the item off into the black space along the side of the game screen, release your mouse, THEN move the item into the game screen and click where you'd like it to drop. Still, even with those conditions, it is near impossible to, say, decorate a house in KR. It's much too frustrating to have to take 10 attempts dragging and dropping a single item before one finally works. |

![]() | This is something I said in a diferent conversation but I think its fits this tread. I previously posted in this thread with negative feedback and now that ive changed my mind I think this is the best place to explain why. Being around since UO:T2A (a year after release... 1999 I think?) I understand most of the comments made by other vets. I have also grown fond of the 2d graphics and i agree that was has kept me so many years playing is the content and community. But we all must be aware that UO has been dying for some years now, uo needed a graphics update. Not many new players are drawn in when they see such (lets admit it 2d fans) extremely outdated graphics, and vets dont play forever. Obviously after 10 years many of the veterans have slowly moved out, and the old 2d client dosnt help bring new players in. I remember when Britain was cramped with players spamming and trading, vesper, moonglow, magnicia, trinsic, papua... all the cities were full of people!!! Sadly such outdated 2d graphics havent helpeed draw new players in and UO has been slowly dying for half a decade. Only Britain and Luna still seem to have some life left (but not much), and it is sad to see the major city being so empty now that it has aproximately half the traffic you would find before in the smallest and most isolated villages? Now all the cities are pretty much abandoned ghost towns, even the major cities seem to be empty (no more crafters gathering around that anvil plaza on the north side of brit, no adventurers at the eastern bank... well absolutely nobody in the whole eastern half of the city, actually the whole city is empty except for only about 5 - 10 players at the west bank at most times and at peaks mabe 20 - 25 people at the bank at the same time? (and this post is going to get very long because I have so much to say so I wont even mention all those empty dungeons) Its sad but the fact is that except for vets not many players are atracted to play this game anymore when they see the 2d graphics, so I felt KR is a "must" to draw new players in and keep UO alive. And I prefer to say bye to that 2d client ive been playing with for 9 years to give UO a chance to attract new players in, than keep an extremely outdated 2d client and sentece UO to die (I firmly believe keeping my beloved 2d client inevitably means losing it forever anyway... If UO dies there will be neither 2d nor KR!) Anyway I also disliked KR but believe me that it has gotten alot better! When KR came out I gave it a chance and was horrified at all that was still to be finished... It looked like it wasnt even half done! Some time later I tried it again and it looked better: not so much unfinished or inexistant graphics for some areas, dungeon entrances etc... They even finaly put in mounts and things... So things were looking good for KR when suddenly... client crash! And every time I logged back in it wouldnt take much for another random client crash (not to mention loading times, graphics lag, and generally lots of slowness and a huge load for my pc, the resources it used were simply ridiculous, mabe memory leaks?). I must say it has been a very long time since I had logged back in KR till a couple weeks ago, and everything has been much better. No graphics problems, good loading... Its not slow anymore! In fact its being much smoother for me than 2d has ever been! Really! Also most crashes are gone. I played last weekend and those 3 days (fri through sat) I had absolutely no crashes! none! I have been playing this week also and I only had two crashes on monday and one today. It seems to only happen when I animal form a few times in a row from toad to dog and back again on my ninja... so it seems everything is running much much better. I have also been learning to use and customize the new UI and believe me... its simply awesome! I will explain some of my favorite features so mabe some other 2d vets will be encouraged to try it out: 1-Hotkey buttons you can place anything into them (spells, equipping/unequipping selected items, skills, etc) and you can set default targeting to each button... So i have quick hotkey self heals/pots/cures, and selected target bandaid/heals... Macroing is also much easier and you can place your saved macros in those buttons so I have an emergency heal button which sets bushidos healing confidence stance and starts a bandaid, meanwhile those two are doing their stuff it heals with the chivalry close wounds spell and disarms/chugs potion/rearms (great to have an interface that can do all this just pressing a button!). I have also tailored similar combos for my tamer and even offensive combos of certain chains of spells for my mage. There are also tons of default actions you can place in these buttons or even in macros! Resource gathering is also made much simpler since you can set any of these macros you create to be repetetive! And you can create more hotbars by simply right clicking and choosing the option (choosing a default target and assigning hotkeys is also done right clicking the hotbar buttons). There is also a small button in the bottom right corner you can click and drag to change the hotbar to be verticall and also to choose how many buttons you want for that hotbar. These features really make you not need UoAssist or MagicTool ever again as it has even more than both together once you learn to use these features. 2- The new map + radar map will really make you never need UoAutoMap ever again. You get tons of things marked already on both the map and radar map, both can be zoomed in/out, you can change the icons for groups of things or individual things. You can add custom waypoints on both map and radar with custom labels and icons. Questing was never easier, you have quest givers on your maps and when you get any quests the quest destinations also appear on the maps. Also uppon certains events new labels trigger automatically on your maps and it even tracks mobiles in game for you (I love it when I am soloing and uppon death I get a waypoint for my corpse + the shrines you can res at + it tracks all the healers wandering about the world! It makes running to a healer so much faster and effective! I set the icons for ressers to be shining bright blue anks that automatically appear on my map and my body is set to a large skull icon.) Also when you are grouping your party members are also tracked in the world map and radar map so you know where they all are positioned even when you are separated, no more need to have everyone download assist+automap and have them link their automap to yours for party member tracking to work, you dont even need them to be using KR, I group with my friends that use 2d and it tracks them anyway! You can even zoom in the play window or zoom it out alot to see far away around you and you can have all those map waypoints/tracking functions show shining effects in the game play window as different coloured glows/pulses/etc when they come into view. 3- FriendsList+chat... Great for always knowing what friends are online when you log on and makes it easy to send them tells with a click or respond to tells! 4- Targeting system makes the widly used old LastTarget function be obsolete. You can assign default targets to the hotkey buttons to speed up certain spells/actions. You can still use the old "target cursor" as always or target self, last target/object/skill, or even next friendly, next party member, next enemy, wait for target. And my favorite and now most used "current target", whenever you left click on something (no precast or target cursor needed, just click it!) you have that selected as your current target and can spam all your spells/skills/whatever and they will all auomatically be cast on your current target withought ever having to target it again. Works kindof like the old last target only you can switch targets easily and fast withought precasting or waiting for a target cursor first. And you always have your curent target displayed with a picture+name+healthbar etc so you always can easily see what your "current target" is and its status. Most dropdown menu things work with a right click on your "current target selection box" like interacting with other players, invite to party/leave/disband, or npc quests/buy/sell/etc. even for pet release/tame/transfer/and commands (though I recomend using the actions/macro menus and placing commands in those great hotbuttons! and even be able to default "current target" also assigned to those kill commands!). And the current target can also be objets like doors or whatever. 5- Counters! Get counters for most things that have a timer, for example place your bandaid in one of those hotbuttons (and assign a default target if you want), whenever you press that button or hit the key associated with it you will see a timer on it showing exactly how many seconds are left to fiish applying that bandage! even on the "effect icons" under you life bar that show the different efffects you have on you you get a timer showing how many seconds you have left before invisibility wears off you (or other time based effects displayed). 6- Customization! Flexible desktop, great UI layout customization, hotbar customization. And for more advanced users you can even change the skins/graphics the UI uses, I personally dont do it and dont know how... all I have explained before is done withought skining or customizing the UI, but I know it can be done. I have found some customized UI skins that other players have created in a website where users post their custom UI skins and texture changes for KR: -> UO SKins.com <- I especially like the silver dragon skin, there is also one that changes the container art, and another cool one that changed all the spell icons for pictures in "magic the gathering card game" that fit pretty well what the spells actually do. If you dont know how to do it like me, you can still further customize your UI downloading other peoples work from that website. These are just some of my favorite features in the new UI, there are more, and probably lots I havent discovered yet as I am still learning to use the new UI. Try it out and see how powerfull the new UI is and forget third party pro apps and what not... forever! youll get much more out of the KR UI and never need any externall aplication running. After playing around some time testing the new UI I found a feature that 2d client lovers will adore... Most complaits I have heard about KR are the graphics... You also like 2d client? Well guess what?!? There is an option in the menu "Legacy Art Mode"... click it, apply changes, click okay, restart your kr client, and look at what just happened... OMG! Your play window just turned into the 2d client! Your house looks beatifull again... so do the players and mosters, and so does the rest of the world! OMG! You are now playing with the graphics just like the 2d client, but with all the functionallity and features the KR UI offers! Want to know about another great feature? Look in that menu again... "Legacy Container Art" Guess what it does? Exaclty, you guessed it! Backpacks are back! (+ the other containers of course). For some reason they seem to be way too big for my taste (and so does the rest of the UI for me). Theres another option calles "Scale User Interface", check that and move the slide bar to around 0.70... Fixed the sizes to better match the 2d client feel? Now backpacks look more like the old ones... but they still dont work like the old backpacks... Or mabe they can? Of course they can! See a small circle button in the corner of your backpack? click on it to toggle between grid mode, list view, or freeform backpack. (freeform makes the backpack work like the 2d client backpack). The legacy container art looks close but not exacly the same to me... in the UI skins website I mentioned above you can also download customized container art but it dosent seem right to me either... The legacy container art is close enough for me meanwhile. But I am taking screenshots of all the backpack/containers in the 2d client, scaling the sizes, and starting to learn how to play around with the skinning part of the KR UI. When I finally finish I shall upload the 2d container art for the customized kr UI in the kr skins website I posted for all you backpack lovers to download and use. Now nobody has excuses of kr being "ugly" to not take advantage of all the new features it has... If you follow the steps i said to do what I did you will be playing with all the great bonuses the KR UI offers, but looking just like if you are playing the 2d client! I have learned to like the new 3d models though and am sure if you compare old earthellies/dragons/balrons/daemons/waters/swampie s etc to the new ones you will surely like the new ones... here is a great video you should all watch before choosing to enable the legacy art mode. Im sure it will help you deicide -> http://store.codecluster.de/kr2.avi <- I did not make the video, I found it posted by someone else in uoforums and wont take credit for it... I think it was Winfield that posted it. BTW: something vets will apreciate is that "stones" is back at the login menu! Plus tons of new music for combat/cities etc that sounds so much better. And of course besides the new sound effects youll all enjoy the new spell effects... Last edited by UOreaper; 28th March 2008 at 08:03 AM. |
