Just purchased 8th Age, some questions...

I just purchased the 8th Age pack in the UK (which contains all the expansions etc.) and have a couple questions...

1) The pack apparently comes with an advanced player ticket. Seeing as ive never played this game before should i use the ticket and possibly make a character that is rubbish or sell it for the money? If sell is the option, how much are they worth?

2) I'm going to be playing solo for most of the time, can all classes solo effectively? If not which is the easiest class to solo with for most of the game? (I'm looking for minimum downtime, maximum fun and destruction)

3) Apparently i'll also get a blue soulstone with this pack aswell. What is it and is it worth keeping or selling?
EDIT - apparently that promotion no longer exists. so i wont have the soulstone.

Thanks for any replies.

Re: Just purchased 8th Age, some questions...

there are actually a lot of changes on the horizon for UO.. so its hard to say which class would be the best to solo... however, id recommend holding on to the advanced character token.. mess around with some of the different skills first and get a feel for what class you like.

one good thing about UO is that you can mix and match your skill sets... so its easier to make a char that you are comfortable playing. Chars like tamers and bards are traditionally better for soloing, the pally class is also very good.. however, with the newer changes comeing out it is hard to say which will be the most effective... i can tell you that Taming is one of the most difficult skill (tedious).. to work up..

so my advice is to experiment with things first, and then once you know what you like playing, use the advanced char. token to jump ahead in the skills... as some skills can be difficult and time consuming to play..

I've never figured out how to be gracefully humble without appearing weak.

Nor have I figured out how to be gracefully passionate without appearing arrogant.

In the end, I always seem to be arrogant and weak instead of humbly passionate.

Re: Just purchased 8th Age, some questions...

Yay another UK'er! Welcome

1) Personally i'd use it to make a money making character, like a tamer, or bard, or even a pvm warrior type
2) Solo'ing monsters? The most powerful classes that were around when I played, were the peace tamer and the peace paladin, those do maximum damage with minimal risk
3) Not sure if you still get the blue soulstone or not, they were supposed to be extending it for Europeans due to the delayed shipments, not sure if that's still the case.

RMS Carpathia: actually the way the iron golems look in this game.. it looks like trailer trash redneck borgs.. because they are just diffrent metals all put togeather and when they walk they look like they are going to fall over

Thanks for the replies.

I think i'll create a paladin to start with. The ability to heal myself might negate the need to spend lots on healing potions or whatever.

If i'm short on cash, are the 8th age gifts worth selling? i know i get one free with the account.

Re: Just purchased 8th Age, some questions...

Right ive got a few more questions now that ive actually played the game for a little bit...

1) Gold, i seem to have lots of little piles of it in my bag. How can i group them all together into one lump?

2) People dropping stuff like bone armour, bags filled with 'oil rags' etc. Any of the stuff useful? I cant seem to sell any of the armour or oil rags anywhere.
And some of it is really heavy to carry around.

3) The Bag itself. The inventory inside is really small, is there anyway to resize the bag in some way so its easier to see?

4) looting corpses... Is there any way to 'loot all' from a corpse instead of dragging and dropping each item?

5) Attacking enemies.... it seems to be a bit hit and miss for me. *boom boom* do i just double-click once on an enemy and my character will swing until dead, or do i have to hold down the left button?

6) Resurrecting from dead/talking npc's.... I've died about 4 times so far and each time i get placed outside a building with healers inside. I cant seem to speak to them by double-clicking, just normal clicking, right clicking etc. Then suddenly a box will come up saying to be resurrected. Why doesnt clicking work immediately?
This also seems the way with general npc's (healers that give quests in the woods around the town i started in. left clicking brings up a menu of stuff about learning anatomy, nothing about the quest hes asking about)

Thanks for any more replies.

Re: Just purchased 8th Age, some questions...

As far as your gifts or whatnot, hang on to them a bit is my advice. That way you can decide if you really want to sell them and know what a fair price is, or you may just decide to keep them.

Gold can be stacked on top of itself into piles of 60,000 max. Of course you can't carry that much, but you can place it in a bank. To do that, you can just go to the bank and say "bank" to access your bank box. The bank will hold up to 125 items. Or let's say you have a few piles of gold and you want them out of the way. You can make a check. Just stand by the bank, and with the gold in your bank box, say "check 100000" or whatever the amount is. It will place a little yellow check into your bank. To cash the check just have it in your bank box and double click it.

Most of the junk dropped is just that, junk. Maybe you can find something to wear until you can get some new armor. In the meantime, don't bother carting it all around.

When you are attacking something you can just attack it while you are in war mode. Stay close and you will keep swinging at it. If your skill is somewhat low (or sometimes even if it is high) then you will miss a few swings for every time you connect. That's normal.

While dead you can't do much of anything. Also, when you lose your young status, then you won't get teleported to a healers automatically upon death. Enjoy that while it lasts. :-P

Re: Just purchased 8th Age, some questions...

My advice for the advanced character token is to make a tamer.. Any other class you can build up very easily just through combat, but taming takes forever to get anywhere where you can go make money off of it. You can make a paladin just from the new character creation page, they will start you off decently. Making a tamer from scratch is a VERY LONG journey and you will get tired of it before you even get the chance to fight with it.

Re: Just purchased 8th Age, some questions...

When i drag one pile of gold on top of another it just goes back to where it was in the inventory

Its not as if its thousands of gold pieces, its only like 384 in one pile and 500 in another.

Any word on making the inventory bag bigger?

Thanks for the replies so far btw. Appreciated.

Re: Just purchased 8th Age, some questions...

You have to use 3d to be able to resize the bags and boxes..

When dragging gold on top of another I always do this.. I hit shift and drag the pile so i dont have to click enter on the amount. then I drag it into the bag on my paperdoll, so I dont have to line up the new pile with the old pile. If you just want to drag it onto the other pile, make sure that the pile that is already there is highlighted when you drag it onto it. It should turn yellow when you are on top of it, I think..
