Re: Is anyone more jerky in 2D?

It's a conspiracy.......As we move closer and closer to full release of KR as the "main client" they will make 2D more & more unbearable to play. I see lots of lag and "downtimes" in the near future for 2D.
I hope I'm wonrg.....

Re: Is anyone more jerky in 2D?

Do you actually think that it's possible they are making 2D look bad on purpose? I did start to think that maybe it was an unfortunate side-effect of 2D being forced to work alongside KR now. But honestly I just can't imagine they would do it on purpose to make people change over, okay maybe I am a little naive, I guess its all just $$$ to them. The worst thing for me is that I upgraded my pc to try to get into KR properly, I was finding it ran a bit slow compared to 2D. I went from 3 gig CPU, 1 gig RAM and a Geforce 6200 128mb to a 3.6 dual core, 2 gig RAM and a Geforce 8400 256mb and astonishingly I am now actually slower running around Luna than I was before, I almost fell off my chair laughing! I am pretty close to giving up now, especially since there have been no patches for KR for a while.

Insurance, enchanted apples, mage weapons, scripting and gold farming by bots, nerfamania running wild.........I'd say anything is possible.

I was puzzled by this effect when I first logged into the 2d client again after playing KR, until I remembered that the same thing happened after I tried WoW many moons ago.

The 2d client has always shifted the view of the landscape in discrete chunks as you move along, and our brains interpret that as continuous motion. However...

If you look at a smoother pixel by pixel scrolling effect for long enough, your brain gets used to it, and UO's original scrolling feels "choppy" by comparison.

2d and KR both provide only the illusion of motion, it's just that ten years of technological advances provide for a smoother illusion.

The effect is entirely in our heads, so to speak, which is just plain neato.

Re: Is anyone more jerky in 2D?

Remember, Kingdom Reborn counts as a different game for the purposes of the "chop effect". It scrolls the landscape we're all familiar with in a much smoother way.

If you've never tried KR, then I cannot explain your perception of jumping pixels.

Re: Is anyone more jerky in 2D?

I've only tried Kingdom Reborn for brief periods of time and it was a lot more jumpy then 2D is now.

Re: Is anyone more jerky in 2D?

2d has been all choppy for me, since UO 3d got patched out.
I am not sure what changed, but it wasn't as choppy before, though 2d has always been choppy for me.

Re: Is anyone more jerky in 2D?

The choppiness in 2d after I tried WoW for a while looked very similar to what I get now when switching from KR to 2d, but based on your experience there must be some other factor at work here.

Curiouser and curiouser...

I have to agree with this, I find KR extremely jerky in comparison to 2D, it actually makes my eyes feel very strained.
