We were given something labeled a "plot", a "scenario" and told to follow it, and like the good little players we are, we logged into our beloved game, now approaching 9 years of age, and bumbled about & around as many of us tend to do, searching for clues, exploring, trying to learn more...

Very little was actually presented to us in a manner that would have made it much more enjoyable, but still we continued. We probably spent more time on forums trying to track down Inu, Yrigor and the others, as well as their intents and machinations, than we did in-game. Because of how it was presented to us.

The tidbits dropped here & there were seemingly out of order, and because living on the forums to understand what was going on seemed to be designed into this whole scenario, we eventually ruined certain parts of the plot for ourselves. One shard would have done this first, another that.

The final dungeon in which we found both Yrigor and Inu seemed to be designed in 5 minutes. Some of us died more from the faulty doors kicking us out into the ogre lord spawn than from the relabeled bone daemon keeping Inu "prisoner".

And, just as the guard's corpse in Britain was left on the street where he was slain for an entire week (as Malabelle's corpse is still laying on the ground in Trammel a year & a half later), Inu continues to sit on a stool in her cell even though "Yrigor" has long since been killed.

But do you know the worst part?

Being put through all this, only to discover my decoder ring, for which I worked so hard and went so far, displays nothing more than an advertisement for toothpaste.

"Kingdom reborn... Kingdom reborn! KINGDOM REBORN!"

That's class right there.

Ummm... Terrance, I don't seem to mind all of the above. And I like the surprise of a new 3d engine. I hope it all looks as good as the pix that have been posted. Let's give credit where it is due, and for once, not just immediately pick everything to death. You're entitled to your opinion, of course--I don't dispute that.

A new 3d engine is something we have been asking for for a really long time. And we are getting it--hopefully. Thanks Devs! I'm happy.

Well I mean, that's great and all. We, myself and people I play with, certainly didn't ask to have our 2D client turned into something else.

We also wouldn't have gone through this whole farce of an in-game scenario had we known it would have ended in "THE ENDING REVEALED" being one of the NPCs babbling out the name of the new game after so much time & effort put into it.

There is that little disclaimer we all agree to that Online Game Play may change without any notice. If it changes for the better, then so be it. Its only a 3d engine, and the sky hasn't begun to fall just yet.

It's only the loss of the 2D engine, so no the sky isn't falling, the sky is just closing up since that's where I view the world of Britannia from.

But the original post of this thread wasn't made to address the actual new game, it was posted to basically say..cheap ploy in the guise of a cheap scenario.

I mean, what are we going to discover when we defeat the ophidians now? Will the "artificed scion" be some ancient gem that displayes the URL of the new game's website when double-clicked?

This whole thing looks good to me and I am sorry that you feel this way, but what did you expect from the "cheap scenario"

This scenario hasn't been cheap at all. My profit margins are up and individuals wish to buy cursed artifacts. Business doesn't get any better.

Something a little more, I don't know, involving? A plot with a conclusion that made me feel it had been worth the effort to reach. Not a gimmick of a spoiler.

Oh well.

Maddux, you manage to sell cursed artifacts? Good gods, who buys a cursed artifact?? Other than as a keepsake from the scenario...

But seriously, if you weren't following the Inu plot, what would you have been doing?

Did you enjoy it up until "the end"?

You can't be 100% sure it's over with (the plot), just like you can't be sure their going to can the beloved 2d engine.

Well, every way I read Darkscribe's announcement, they are.

He didn't say they are rebuilding the 3D client, he said they're completely rebuilding "the Ultima Online client".

I mean, please, prove that my interpretation is wrong. I don't mean that sacastically either.
