Daughters comp is running windows 2000 sp4. Symptoms are: Page may not load in browser, UO will usually log in but lose connection within a minute, icq will not connect or will lose connection right after loading list and last but not least teamspeak will work the whole time with no apparent problems.

Things I checked. Installed a usb lan connector to verify it was not the nic. Her husbands comp does not have any problems at all and they both use the same router/modem combo. Switched lan connections between the two computors. Watched the lan connection under properties and it never shows a drop in connection. Pinged external ip's with no dropped packets. Tracert the external ip and some times would complete the hops other times it would return "destination host unreachable (or something like that)". It would vary on which hop that could occur. Disabled/enabled norton firewall (but not virus protection) and also checked the permissions settings for each application. Ran a virus scan.

Anyway I am going to research microsofts data base. Just wanted to post here and see if anyone had an idea or suggestion. Can't try anything until I am off work tonight but she is hoping I can get it fixed soon.

Sounds like a software problem if you've tried two connection types..

Firewall enabled/disabled makes no difference.

Software conflict would be my guess too. Just not sure how to find/fix it. Well if it was mine I would blow everything off and reload OS and programs. Not sure she would like that though .

I HAVE had problems with norton in the past blocking stuff at random, never did like the program.

Did a virus/trojan scan with norton. Tried downloading a spyware/adware scanner. Could not complete the download.

I have heard of others not liking norton. Up until now it has done a good job for us (total of five comps). I may change my mind if I find it is the cause .

Hmm, do you know what she connects to the internet with, I had a problem with my laptop because I had both tmobile and my wireless cards own connection program. It would connect for a secound on tmobile then would drop with the software conflict.

Not sure what your asking Cabe. So let me try a couple of guesses. She uses dsl with PPPoE. Normally uses a lan card with cableing to the router. I disabled the card and installed a usb/lan convertor. It was still hooked up last night when I left. If I missed what you where asking, sorry .

Hmmm, I was just sharing a similar problem I had with connection issues in hopes it might be something similar. If she has two programs that connect to the dsl then that might be the issue. Sorry for the confusing message before, I'm not super computer savvy so it probably came out garbled, hehe.

I strongly suspect spy/adware, some of it can cripple your computer. The techies there can tell very quickly what is wrong with your computer and will work with you as long as necessary to get things working again.
