Cool I'm from the old school

I started playing UO when it was beta and quit in 2001 when I left for the Air Force. It seems a lot has changed and I have been considering coming back to it, however I feel that too much is changed and it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks.

I remember a time when you could macro just about any skill to 100 in about a night, I remember when you could do a bug and recall into peoples locked houses and rob them, haha. I remember when purple items were all the rage, I remember the clean up brittania program, that's where I got cool neon hair.

Does anyone think it's worth coming back to, or should I move onto a different game? What shard has an active felucca community? What are good characters these days? Samurai seems neat and so do Necromancers.

Please tell me any pros and cons you might have, I really appreciate everyones help, here.

Darrell

Is 10 million gold still a lot of money?

Depends on the shard, but I'd say most players would consider that a good sum to have.

Re: I'm from the old school

Welcome back and welcome to UOForums

You are right that many things have changed since your hiatus, some would say for the better and others would say for the worse. Putting personal perspectives aside for the time being, I suggest playing it for awhile (at least a month) with the same spirit you had before you left. By doing so, you will know for yourself if you still like the game.

Personally, there are things that have changed that I don't care much for but there are more changes that I do like and thats one reason why I haven't left after all these years.

What shard did you play on before you left? On most shards there are great folks/groups who are willing to lend a hand to newcomers and to help returning players readjust to the newness of the world of UO.

Perhaps we can help you by introducing you to a few of them.

*ps ... 10 mil is more than what is in my cookie jar on Sonoma ... that's a lot of cookies for me

Re: I'm from the old school

I played Napa Valley and Siege before I left. I logged into Siege about 6 months ago for a few hours and did not see many people, that led me to believe that people had quit the game (lol).

I am open to a new shard and a fresh start if anyone can reccomend one, I am old school like some and don't like Trammel, so if anyone can reccomend one with a great Fellucca community, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for the warm welcome and your time.

Re: I'm from the old school

Awww you no like Trammel .... (j/k)
it is a good 'vacation' spot though

In the meantime, Silverfoot is a great reference for the ins and outs about Siege and other Fel based playing. Also thatdudenamedbo should be able to help with more about PvP & Fel as he heads up the UOForums PvP area.

Good luck and if you ever do want to visit Sonoma, give me a hollar and although I don't play on the wild side (Fel) I can introduce you to many who really seem to enjoy it .... Peoples Army of Sonoma is one of the oldest Fel based guilds (honorable members) who would be able to help you settle in as well. Threnody our Sonoma Librarian can help in that area as she is a member of PAS and runs the largest libraries on Sonoma .. both FEL & TRAM locations.

Re: I'm from the old school

Where is the sonoma server based? What state?

and

I might come over to Sonoma, I had a character from back in the day there, but don't recall ever playing him. I might use the free character token I got from buying UO shadows of whatever it's called, it'll give me a head start on a "decent" character.

Re: I'm from the old school

Ah well, I live in San Jose. So that's why I am pinging 12ms to it, HAHA.

Do you play a necro? I am thinking of one of those and what is this I hear about not needing reagents anymore?

Re: I'm from the old school

Well, since I was brought up.. *laughs* Sonoma is a good shard.. not too large or small of a population and it is a west coast shard. The feluccan life is halfway decent. A majority of pvp is fairly centrally based to specific locations but that seems to be normal across all shards.

As a returning veteran I highly recommend looking into the guild People's Army of Sonoma if you chose to play on Sonoma. We have had many returning players join and they are helped by dedicated folk available at basically every hour of any day to catch up on the many changes that are constantly happening. Its a good guild that covers all playstyles and interests in UO with nightly events that run about two hours on average. The median age seems to be in the 30s, but we have members from the teens to I think our oldest is in his 60s with about 185 individual players and trust me, everyone gets personal attention despite our size. You can take a peek into the guild and those in it at www.peoplesarmyofsonoma.net

As for my libraries.. heh. Largest set of rune libraries on Sonoma with feluccan runes felucca side for the reds to also use, and the trammel ones trammel side for those that do not touch felucca with a ten foot pole. (*points at Mum hehe*) There are also books about how to train, how to do quests, and other such things like that as well as dye tubs, lockpicking training boxes, and the like for everyone to use. The link to its location on both facets on sonoma is here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...odyUO/Map2.jpg

Welcome back to this wonderful, yet buggy world of UO. Its always good to see an old player return. As far as regeants you can get armor pieces now that have lower regeant cost and if you put together one that is 100% lrc you do not needs regeants
