Re: If player run shards can do it, why can't EA?

For some really wierd reason, creative people just seem to put more heart into volunteer projects than into some they're being paid for. And as a company, EA is going to look for the least expensive way (graphic artist willing to work for the least amount of money), thus the artwork in UO/EA bites. With that in mind, besides copyright reasoning, I just don't understand why they won't accept player created artwork, storylines for events, player fiction for expansions, etc. *shrugs*

some of those paperdolls you coppuld actually download from a siote, ive lost the name of it but i remember seeing that one there. you could like download a whole new skin for uo which changes your paperdoll/bar etc... doesnt show to anyone else.. but looks kinda cool..

Aye, Gala.. many PRS make such skins available as downloads. Problem is that when UO patches, you have to go in and tweak the uo.cfg all over again. Not a big deal, but could be convenient after an expansion release like ML and the upcoming 8th Anniversary since they're typically patching indescriminantly to fix bugs. :/

As amazing as some of those outfits look and how awesome it would be to have some of the content that alot of the prs seem to have, imagine how many expansions EA would throw out to justify putting all that stuff in.

I've never understood how the prs can redo everything but ea needs a brand new expansion to add a simple dungeon or add a new race/skill set, hopefully one day they will wise up and run the game the way it should be run.

That's what I can't understand
I guess EA's way of thinking it, we'll bring out more content, more dungeons, but charge people to visit
I mean why give something away for free when you know people will pay for it?

Bit like when the councelors used to do weddings (For free), after they were gone, EA started charging for it with their "Magic moments" lol

But seriously, adding a dungeon is SO Easy, adding land is extremely easy
If the tools EA has, don't allow that easy creation/additions etc, then maybe they should create new tools

I mean you can make an entire new map (bigger than trammel) using like....6 colours in MSPaint
You draw the mountains in grey, beaches in the sandy colour, grass in green, forests in dark green, sea in blue
So simple, wish EA could do that, instead of charging us everytime they bring out new shiney items.

Actually that's a misconception. Magic Moments was created by a group of UO players who wanted to bring back that part of UO, not EA. However, they didn't have the advantages the counselors did, so they went to EA for help on a couple things and were forced to charge. Which is sad because they had a very creative service going on.

Because they needed GM's or someone who could create those items for them on demend (ie whenever they had a wedding or event to do) they were forced to charge, or so I heard that was one of the reasons.

Counselors are really something that EA needs to bring back to UO...

Re: If player run shards can do it, why can't EA?

It blows my mind when I see stuff like this! You have to figure that EA would be at least semi-aware of these shards and have someone (if not a group of people) checking these out regularly...so why wouldnt they buy the designs and try to recruit some of the talent?

I guess its all just big buisness that I cant understand...in my field (helath care/diagnostic imaging) we have publications that demonstrate all kinds of new innovations, protocols, and such. While many times they are not jumped on, they are certainly recognized and acted upon....how can gaming be much different?

Damn, didn't know that

It seemed to have a bad rep from the start though, mostly complaints about reps showing up late, or not at all heh

Yeah it did have a pretty bad rep..hehe. I remember lots of people complaining about them and only a handle of their customers were really happy with them.

Can't blame them for trying I guess! lol
