Actually that's a misconception. Magic Moments was created by a group of UO players who wanted to bring back that part of UO, not EA. However, they didn't have the advantages the counselors did, so they went to EA for help on a couple things and were forced to charge. Which is sad because they had a very creative service going on.

Because they needed GM's or someone who could create those items for them on demend (ie whenever they had a wedding or event to do) they were forced to charge, or so I heard that was one of the reasons.

Counselors are really something that EA needs to bring back to UO...

It blows my mind when I see stuff like this! You have to figure that EA would be at least semi-aware of these shards and have someone (if not a group of people) checking these out regularly...so why wouldnt they buy the designs and try to recruit some of the talent?

I guess its all just big buisness that I cant understand...in my field (helath care/diagnostic imaging) we have publications that demonstrate all kinds of new innovations, protocols, and such. While many times they are not jumped on, they are certainly recognized and acted upon....how can gaming be much different?

Damn, didn't know that

It seemed to have a bad rep from the start though, mostly complaints about reps showing up late, or not at all heh

Yeah it did have a pretty bad rep..hehe. I remember lots of people complaining about them and only a handle of their customers were really happy with them.

Can't blame them for trying I guess! lol

I wonder if it'd been different if the program was run by volunteers?

heh

Re: If player run shards can do it, why can't EA?

I would imagine that it would be better. They wouldn't have to use EA's rules.

Of course your wouldn't get items like in game rings and stuff...but I mean, who wears a wedding ring now a days anyway? We all wear skill/stat rings.

I think it would run a lot better under volunteer status

Re: If player run shards can do it, why can't EA?

I used to know how to set up a player run shard. Anyone able to refresh my memory on how to do it or is it a no-no here to ask? Seem to remember having to download something but cannot for the life of me remember what. Help! (if it's ok)

Re: If player run shards can do it, why can't EA?

RunUo.com is a good source if you want to run your own shard. I have a shard running constantly and would like to get some people to play.

new players start out with 5 million, a scope to set up house and cool weapons.

you need to get uogateway.com and then add my server to connect

my server is mail1.chelseaco.com
