Idea For UOKR Monster Graphics

taken from Thread :Idea For UOKR Monster Graphics - found in UO.UHall

The last video of UOKR graphics really did look beautiful. But I noticed one thing toward the end that was detracting, and that's all the monsters in a swarm looked exactly alike. The problem was not quality of individual sprites but of all of them at as a whole.

UOKR is bringing a new level of graphics to Ultima Online, and people are working hard to make the graphics modern.

I think having ever so slightly different types of graphics for the same monsters will make the game look a little better (and is probably something few if any other games do yet).

Having a few smaller, larger, quirkier, scarier, shaded, etc. graphics for swarm style monsters will subconsiously increase immersibility. Demons, lizardmen, etc. all have different names. Why not have slightly different graphics for each name?

Just a thought.

[i] Sounds like a great idea to me. I hope something like this can be done w/o too much effort.I]

Given the possible animation systems, I believe the only real feasible way to do this is to allow for shading variances. Varying models would mean a LOT more work, and take up a LOT more space client-wise.

Right now, I'll be glad when they fix the little "replay death animation" problem they have in the videos.

I knew the monster was a spell caster, but letting them rez there friends is a bit much.

*Even if it would be a heck of a surpise*

hehe yes, imagine killing balrons in the blood dungeon, and then the balron your killing casts Noble Sac, suddenly your fighting 30 balrons. Eeeek!

Then again on second thaughts, they'd all be on 1hp. Could be fun...

On the graphics for swarm creachers, if this wouldnt be to much of a problem to do id be shocked if they wernt doing it already. Even if its not the shading of the animal itself, maybe holding dif wepons.
