Re: I installed I tested and I am not installing the Final Release.
I literally didn't tweak ANY settings on the video card except to adjust the resolution to match the max that my monitor wants (1650x1050 I think it is).
I will get around to playing with it, but even with defaults it's fantastic. I still can't believe how crisp the text looks compared to my old video card. It's so much easier to read - not to mention gaming! I'll post whatever I end up tweaking ![]()

I am just curious what code they are using and how they are making expansions with new skills, quests, etc.? Are they using a different code/meshing codes? No offense meant to Jeremy or anyone else, but how can they recode one part of the game by adding and removing things (i.e.: gain system, quests, etc., etc., etc.) and not recode to fix issues as well?

Re: I installed I tested and I am not installing the Final Release.
Well, that's the point of a beta test, to find bugs or problems and report them...the client isn't finished yet, so I don't think you need to prematurely bemoan the loss of your beloved UO, since the 2D client isn't going anywhere for at least a year. Also, if things are too blurry, zooming out works for me...also lets me see more of the surrounding area than normal. If you really loved UO so much, you'd be logging in to report bugs and help shape the future of our game, not complaining about how you don't like a client that is barely ready to be beta-tested, let alone be judged as a final product.
P.S. Why would you think that KR would have such better graphics if you're playing it at the same resolution as 2D? Last edited by Danny Ocean; 13th June 2007 at 11:35 AM. |

Re: I installed I tested and I am not installing the Final Release.
Honestly, and this is just opinion here so feel free to smack back, I really have just been getting the "old-school-UO-player-who-hates-any-changes-whatsoever" vibe from a lot of the complaints. Many are very legitimate, in that KR obviously needs work still on several issues, but with a semi-decent machine KR already looks amazing and is looking better every day. It's gotten smoother with every patch, the interface is getting less wonky, and the amount of time I play KR over 2D keeps going up.
At first, I hated KR. It was slow, it was broken, it crashed, and I felt that I couldn't even test it properly. Now, the only character of mine that doesn't use KR is my tailor, and as soon as the deeds are fixed, he'll be using it too. |

Re: I installed I tested and I am not installing the Final Release.
*hopes there's a lot more "KR testing" going on over "KR playing"*
I really hate the fact they let KR go on live shards and not just on test. Not trying to step on anyone's toes, but KR is out in BETA form only, and I'm not "playing KR" because I don't have the time to "test KR".

The client is the deal on your pc... its interface and graphics.. interface that communicates to the server code what your doing so the server can update where you are and what your doing.. and the client is the graphics engine... The server code is the core of the game.. it governs the game play.. the skills the combat ect..it does the calulations for if you make something, the damage ect... the client has nothing to do with game play... the server code is the same code we have had since early alpha... late 95/96ish Oh the graphics engine (client) displays what graphics the server code tells it to (the graphics are stored on your pc) So in the nuts shell... any problems you have in game play... there still going to be there after KR goes live and even into the future until EA gets around to fixing the issues in the server code... But one thing at a time.... |

Re: I installed I tested and I am not installing the Final Release.
So I understand everyone's position on UO:KR. I suppose I can see how some people enjoy it, but here's my two cents.
First off, I want to say that i definitely don't intend to offend anyone. Just stating my opinion. ***begin rant*** So I downloaded UO:KR, and ran it for the first time, very excited. I opened it up, logged in and said "Hey, I didn't know I was playing World of Warcraft!". Honestly. The interface, menus, chat, everything- near carbon copies of World of Warcraft. Now, I understand that WoW has been enormously successful. But you can't simply ride the coattails of a different game, and expect to be "revolutionary" even in your own realm. Like I said, I don't want to offend anyone, but Dev team.. Develop. Don't depend on Blizzard to come up with ideas, and then mold them into your own. ****end of rant****** |

The UI isn't what sells UO. It's the very rich world and autonomous nature of character development that sells UO. In the past, though, I think a lot of people refused to try UO because the graphics sucked and the UI was awful. Maybe those people will try it now that it has a modern UI similar to what they're used to. And honestly, as a 9+ year UO vet, the new UI is growing on me.

Re: I installed I tested and I am not installing the Final Release.
We recently upgraded my graphics card so I could play Oblivion. It's an excellent card. I have a brand new flat screen 21 inch monitor.. there is nothing wrong with my system that makes the screen blurry. It just is hard to distringuish. Zooming is not for everyone and we shouldn't have to zoom to see things. The definition on the graphics is in question here to me.. not my system which does fine in many varied high definition graphics. My eyes may not be the best, but they are not the issue here. I play KR and come away with sore eyes from leaning in trying to see it better. If it's this bad on my nice new monitor, I can't imagine how icky it looks on a low end or older one.

Re: I installed I tested and I am not installing the Final Release.
I've just started back in the game after many years away and have tried the KR client a bit.
The blurriness that many are seeing is probably un-finished textures I would bet, placeholders that will get replaced as the art team has time to get to them. I can't see them making some nice and fairly high-res textures while leaving others that look very low-res. As for the interface I like some things and dislike others. I really like the hotbar system as I've been using it since EQ so it's like second nature to have them available. I really dislike the inventory system though. I enjoyed keeping my backpack, bank, storage and the like all organized just the way I wanted it. Now you can't even keep something in the same square since as soon as you use it they move to the end, which I personally find HIGHLY annoying. |
