Re: I installed I tested and I am not installing the Final Release.

HOLY cow.

I am floored.

I upgraded my video card today, and I am dumbfounded. I haven't even loaded up KR yet, and I can't believe how crisp and clear my screen is - JUST LOOKING AT TEXT!!! Oh my, what have I been looking at all these years.

Of course, I'm trying to boot up KR right now and this patch is taking FOR-EV-ER!!!!!

But I see in the patch notes that they added a couple widescreen resolutions - sweet! (I have a widescreen monitor).

.... OK... I'm in KR....

Holy cow. I'm in love.

I can actually see the holes on the bamboo flute in my backpack.

Grass doesn't look murky anymore.

Items don't look blurry or fuzzy like they did before.

I can actually see the shoulder blade movement of my ridable polar bear when we're walking.

Gold coins no longer look like a yellow blob in my backpack.

Spell effects are much brighter.

I'm beginning to see a bit of a problem with the "keep the sys requirements low" plan. People with lower end systems will still be able to play, but it definitely does not look as good (to the point of it being frustrating, even - for example, the Twisted Weald was hard for me to walk around because all of the landscape /grasses, trees/ blended in with each other on my old video card. Now, it's crisp and clear. Apparently, a modern video card makes a HUGE difference - at least on my system.

Old video card: XFX GeForce 6600 AGP 8x
New video card: XFX GeForce 7950 GT AGP 8x

I realize not everybody can run out an upgrade their video cards... but if you can.... Oh. My. Gawd.

Seriously. My jaw is still on the floor. I had no idea what I was missing!

Re: I installed I tested and I am not installing the Final Release.

I literally didn't tweak ANY settings on the video card except to adjust the resolution to match the max that my monitor wants (1650x1050 I think it is).

I will get around to playing with it, but even with defaults it's fantastic. I still can't believe how crisp the text looks compared to my old video card. It's so much easier to read - not to mention gaming!

I'll post whatever I end up tweaking

And I shall say my one opinion that shall not change... Jeremy stated the core of UO has not been touched yet... that is the code that deals with all the issues that have been a torn in most players sides for some time... that code is still the one EA claims is old and that no one currently in the developer team has a clue about in how it works and is the same code where more often than not anytime something is added bugs appear out of no were...

I so dont understand why folks cant grasp that.. Until EA replaces the server code.. the code that is the game play code.. the code that makes UO.. UO nothing is going to improve.. its going to be just as it has been thru out the years with glitches, bugs, cheating, broken systems... its going to continue to be a pain in the arse for the developers to do anything with...

I am just curious what code they are using and how they are making expansions with new skills, quests, etc.? Are they using a different code/meshing codes? No offense meant to Jeremy or anyone else, but how can they recode one part of the game by adding and removing things (i.e.: gain system, quests, etc., etc., etc.) and not recode to fix issues as well?

Re: I installed I tested and I am not installing the Final Release.

Well, that's the point of a beta test, to find bugs or problems and report them...the client isn't finished yet, so I don't think you need to prematurely bemoan the loss of your beloved UO, since the 2D client isn't going anywhere for at least a year. Also, if things are too blurry, zooming out works for me...also lets me see more of the surrounding area than normal. If you really loved UO so much, you'd be logging in to report bugs and help shape the future of our game, not complaining about how you don't like a client that is barely ready to be beta-tested, let alone be judged as a final product.

P.S. Why would you think that KR would have such better graphics if you're playing it at the same resolution as 2D?

Welcome to UO Forums Danny Ocean

Does seem that many are shooting KR before it gets out of Beta

Re: I installed I tested and I am not installing the Final Release.

Honestly, and this is just opinion here so feel free to smack back, I really have just been getting the "old-school-UO-player-who-hates-any-changes-whatsoever" vibe from a lot of the complaints. Many are very legitimate, in that KR obviously needs work still on several issues, but with a semi-decent machine KR already looks amazing and is looking better every day. It's gotten smoother with every patch, the interface is getting less wonky, and the amount of time I play KR over 2D keeps going up.

At first, I hated KR. It was slow, it was broken, it crashed, and I felt that I couldn't even test it properly. Now, the only character of mine that doesn't use KR is my tailor, and as soon as the deeds are fixed, he'll be using it too.

Re: I installed I tested and I am not installing the Final Release.

*hopes there's a lot more "KR testing" going on over "KR playing"*

I really hate the fact they let KR go on live shards and not just on test.

Not trying to step on anyone's toes, but KR is out in BETA form only, and I'm not "playing KR" because I don't have the time to "test KR".
