I have a new character on LA and I've been grinding through escourt missions and swordsman quests. Over the past couple days, I've managed to bring in around 20k and I'm not sure what to spend my cash on.

I originally wanted to get a boat, but then noticed I can get a small house for like 36k.

Can anyone offer comments between house and boat?

Also, which is the most desireable place to live and operate? Fel or Tram? I'm on Tram right now and it seems pretty dead up near the Cove and Minoc areas where I was running around last night. In fact, I'm not sure I seen another player.

House first, 'cause you can store more stuff there instead of living out of the bank.

I'd vote house before boat, simply for storage. As you acquire more stuff, the bank item limit will grow short very quickly.

There's a lot of housing around/outside Luna and Umbra on LA. Maybe wander around there and see if there's any room to build up in an existing "neighborhood."

i would get a house................WAY before a boat(unless your a fisher). mainly because of storage. im not quite sure how much a small house has but a boat has the storage of a backpack(125 items). what kinda char are you/making? if your a crafter/miner/lumber jack.... i would go fel, you get 2xs resources. but with the good comes the bad, your always wondering if a red is just around the corner. trem is more peaceful but still has more then its fair share of undesirable players.

Look for UO:F tags, if you want peeps to hang out with

This current char was started to be a treasure hunter with a bit of sword skills, but then I started hacking away and realized I could get a bit of cash from mob drops. I need to focus on my cartography and my lockpicking some more, though. I'm fairly new to UO (played for a little bit about 5-6 years ago) so I'm just learning as I go. My goal was to become some sort of pirate/treasure hunter, but we'll see.

In regards to Fel, is there any core advice in regards of what NOT to do? I'm guessing I want to be carrying a bare minimum of cash and gear incase I get killed or looted? Are there hotspots where I should be worried about getting "jumped"? A little nervous of losing what little stuff I have.

I'll keep an eye out for you UO:F folks.

Well, I'm not that nervous... just don't want to do anything completely dumb in the first few minutes I'm there. Last time I played, I got camped by about 10 people. Made for a boring time.
