I gathered my courage decided to go after these Vanguards, so here I am at Papua, I see a controller and go after him. My GD is doing well but the guy just disappears. I find him again a couple of screens away, start the beating again, well suddenly I'm in the middle of brigands, liches, demons, elementals, nightmares, my GD does well for a while but they are all over him and I panick and try to escape, no success..

I go there with my bush-chiv swordsman, dead before I make a single swing. Here goes my Lord status..

So how??

you have to lure them away from the spawn, but not too far or they'll teleport back. if the spawn gets out of hand and there is nowhere to lure it, just wait a couple minutes and most of it will despawn.

you should probably go on your tamer unless your pally happens to be a geared sampire. make sure you assist your dragon in DPS'ing the vanguard down. vanguards start healing a lot once they get below 50% health. i usually start spamming mindblast once they reach 40% hp.

don't be intimidated by the spawn, they are pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

Exactly i use my sammy and lure honor and kill.Just run if spwan get to heavy the despawn.

As was said above, lure them off by themself, but if you fine yourself in the spawn run or invis as fast as you can. I normally invis as soon as I see spawning, and wait for them to target my pet. Then I have the pet follow me away from the area, once I am out of the middle of the spawn I can kill those minions that followed.

If you mark a rune someplace safe nearby, you can also just recall away. Thats a pretty useful trick. Gets you away from the spawn and clears agro. Then you can just go back and attack the spawn or wait for it to disappear.

The tethering of the Vanguards is good, but sometimes I think its way too short. Its sort of annoying. lol

I go to Nuj'lem with an Orc Brute or Ogre Lord "dryad allured" and I tell it to stay....I go and drag one down...
When he gets there...I invis...I tell ogre to attack....then I start withering it to death in wraith form...

I go to papua and pull one out with my gdragon and just mana dump him when he hits 25%.

I just pull one down away from spawn, sick my puppy on him...EoO, Concencrate, blast away with lightnin strike on my archer...they go down pretty fast

I lure one away ........ Beat the tar out of it with my dexer... chivy dexer..... then when the spawn happens lead him further away beat him some more if I can't kill him before he teleports back then I go up kill what spawn there is as quick as I can pull him out again..... rinse and repeat until he is no more.... Not really easy and the spawn can get out of hand VERY quickly..... have to be alert and on your toes...

My guild had a hunt on this last night. We all stayed grouped together, with cross healing and all. I (the tamer without a pet) died a few times, but we did fairly decently.
