How to deal with my reservations?
Hello there!
I try to be brief but i do have a tendancy towards exposition. I just felt that i needed to deal with my reservations about UO and discuss with some of the people around here why I feel somewhat scared to purchase ultima. I played the game for a while a couple years back, but since i didnt really have a bank account at the time it wasnt in my best interest to play. After playing wow for 2 years, i know for a fact that i dont want a hardcore mmo, but it would be nice to get back into the swing of things. I just realised how late it is (for me) so im going to cut right to the point. 1: Age- The maturity level of the people in this game both excites and frightens me. At the same time that I feel excited over the fact that i might be able to talk to someone with half a brain, i not only afraid of being let down but also afraid that i might miss out on some of the crazy antics that happen when you get several angsty teens together. 2: Population- I dont really care that Ultima has so few players, I just dont want there to be so few that im playing by myself! 3: Shards / Time Frames - Once again, i'd like to play on a shard filled with people, but I'm not exactly sure if pacific has many people let alone if its even pacific time (remember, its late -.- ) 4: Raiding - Although i do want to do my own thing, It would be nice to be in a guild that does dungeons and kicks ass. Do guilds like that really exist in this game? 5: The Plug - Even though EA seems to be giving it their all in redrawing the game (which looks rather neat) I'm afraid that they are going to pull the plug on UO. This would not only be a shame seeing as this game has such a long and impressive history, but also because i dont want to make friends and then see them vanish so quickly after playing again. Although i know games are not serious business, i do think of the friendship aspect as highl important. In any event, hi hello and greetings. I will probably be buying the game soon, although im not sure about all this beta testing thats going on. Anyone know when the game will finally be redrawn ? ![]() Thanks Hycran Last edited by Hycran; 17th June 2007 at 01:47 AM. Reason: i !!!!ed up loller |

![]() 2 - 3 It depends on the shard you choose, some shards are still very active - others less so. It also depends on the timezone you are in and the timezone of the shard you choose. You will be hard pressed to see any activity on Europa during what is for US primetime. Also take into account that there are more landmass now, and players are spread out more. But an important part of this is... leading to nr 4 4. Finding a guild that suits you is important in UO as well as any other game. Theres no fun in playing a MMO all by yourself. If you want some highend content you can look for a guild that does Doom, Peerless and some champ spawns for example. And yes, they do exist on every shard I bet. 5. With the new client KR Ea/Mythic are investing a lot into UO, I don`t think they will pull the plug on UO for many years to come. It`s still good business for them. KR is still in beta and no one knows when they will release the final product. My suggestion is to just buy the latest expansion (9th Anniversary includes them all) and try out 2D. When KR is released you will be able to download the new client for free. |

Re: How to deal with my reservations?
My advice is the same. Buy the 9th Anniversary box - it gives you all the content for around $15 plus a free month of game play.
UO is as hardcore as you want it to be. It's the only game out right now where you can do nothing all day and still feel like you've advanced your character and had fun. You can also join a guild, or even go solo and take on the hard spawns and "raid" content. As for shards, I don't know much about each one, but Europa has an extremely strong and robust roleplaying population and your choice of guilds that take the UO experience to a whole new level. The way I see it, there's no reason to not buy the game. |

Re: How to deal with my reservations?
Welcome to the forums!
I'm on Pacific, and my guild is a very active one. We have people who are both into PvM and PvP. You will be able to find people around for both scenes. They aren't gonna yank UO out from under us any time soon. If they were, they certainly wouldn't be pouring so many resources into it now. ![]() We are all broken and wounded in this world. Welcome Hycran!
Instead of saying what has already been said since your questions have already been answered, I'll just say hi and weclome back. Oh, and I'd suggest playing on the 2D client and not touching the Beta KR client. ![]() ![]() Thanks again Maddux! Re: How to deal with my reservations?
Thanks for the prompt replies friends
![]() In regards to the 2d clients, thats the only one i want to play so no worries In regards to the people(s), im glad to know that there are still people playing. I supposed i have to choose between europa and pacific, not because they are the ones you folks suggested but more so because pacific is the same time zone and europa (as far as i have been able to discern) has the highest or one of the higest pops for any shard. I remember starting in britannia some 4 years ago and the place being flooded with people selling tamed dragons, crafting free armor and the like, and i sure hope its still like that once i begin to play again (which i will probably do once i get a better computer, this one could probably handle it but i dont think its worth the effort haha) Now that this is all settled, does anyone know a talent builder site or a forum that specifically deals with character builds? Its not rocket science that a warrior will have parry, swords etc, but it would be neat to see what other people have made ![]() Take it easy H |

Re: How to deal with my reservations?
Some of the things you remember and are looking for no longer exist.
Pacific and Atlantic are both fairly populated shards for the US and I'd give the nod to Atlantic for the biggest population. But both are pretty well populated compared to others. I don't really know of a "Talent Builder" site, there are several "Templates" (another term for Talents or Build or Class) posted in these forums and over in each Professions forums at uo.stratics.com. I'll also add there are many members of this site that will be willing to answer any questions you may have and there is an entire FAQ Forum in the process of being made, so ask anything. ![]() ![]() Thanks again Maddux! Re: How to deal with my reservations?
Does anyone know about the RP community on Pacific? UO has been the only game ive ever played that you can actually RP in and actually feel in character. I tried doing it in WoW but my level 12 paladin made me want to kill myself with the hammer of wrath spell i didnt have yet because i was level 12 (if you catch my drift).
I also just figured out that my !!!!ty laptop can play UO, so as long as i can get it to stop randomly crashing, then i will be one happy camper ![]() |

Re: How to deal with my reservations?
There are a few guilds that are into RP. ELF is the one that comes predominantly to mind.
