Hi all ag'in. I've seen people running around with armored horses (not swamp dragons). Is this something special, as in a veteran reward, or can it be made?

It appears to be a Charger of the Fallen. Are these truly of any value? I don't see the advantage of NOT riding a horse (The CotF turns into a statue when dismounted). Is there any intrisic defensive or offensive benefit to the Charger?

I believe that the Charger of the Fallen was a reward offered up for pre-ordering Ultima Online: Mondains Legacy. They do not provide any specific benefits, except making your character look spectacular (especially if you play some sort of Knight). Functionally, they are basically the same thing as Etheral Steeds, except anyone (even newbies) can use them. They run for about five million gold on Baja, not sure what they go for on Catskills.

If you are on Kingdom Reborn, there is also another type of armored steed - the War Horse. The faction specific horse has some decorative barding, but appear as a re-hued horse in 2D.

which let you choose from several of the previous pre-order rewards.

why pay in gold when its so cheap?

If you're debating paying gold vs cash, the exchange rate is somewhere around $2 cash per 1 mil gold (so, if someone's selling one in-game for more than 5 million gold, it's cheaper to buy the legacy token for $10 cash).

and to summarize the only real value is the ability to have a ride without constant taming for the player not "old" enough to have an ethy!

I thought about it some more, and there is the advantage of not having the horse get killed, then spending time on finding a vet to rez it. I have this problem with my fighter... I die, lots.

My main concern (originally) was getting some extra defense bennies, so I think I will still try for a swamp dragon.

edit: need 93.9 taming skill. It'll be a looong while.

Heck, go to WBB or Luna and ask someone to tame you one. Most players will do it for very little gold. Anyone can ride a swampy, I'm willing to bet you can get a tamer to tame one for you for 25k or less.
