Horde Minions

For those Necros out there.. how do Horde Minions work? I've started going out to farm on my Necro on Siege recently. Problem is.. I'm terribly lazy about looting the corpses.. or more often.. don't have enough time to loot because I'm focusing on the re-spawning monsters.

From Stratics Skill Guide:

Horde Minion
Requires 30 Necromancy and 30 Spirit Speak.
Abilities: Pack animal, picks up stuff, decent combat assistant.

Does it simply act as a pack animal like a llama or pack horse? Does it only pick stuff up off the ground or will it loot corpses as well? I'm hoping the last is true as it would make farming much easier for me. Anyone know for sure.. I took one out to try it last night but I died before I could check to see if he had anything on him.

As I understand it, it only picks up stuff from the ground and yes, it acts like a pack animal to (From memory)
