HI, brand new!!!

Hello All,

I just picked up UO 8th. I have known of UO for years and have thought about giving it a try now and then. I stumbled onto the UO site and saw the special offer for the game. I have played most of the older Ultimas, V being my favorite. So far, I have made a few guys on some of the different shards and wandered around alittle. Still have not picked the shard I will play on for real. I am thinking I will use my adv token to make a ninja.

A quick question, do you all run in 2D or 3D? 3D is newer, however something look nicer in 2D. Are there features in the game that only 3D can access?

Much Thanks,
Stonn

Re: HI, brand new!!!

Welcome welcome!!

I run 2d personally, I honestly don't like 3d
2d seems to run faster for me and the graphics (in my opinion) are clearer.

I'm not sure wether 3d has more features now, unless you count the 3d spell effects
I think Tukaram uses 3d all the time, so he'd be able to help ya out with that one.

Re: HI, brand new!!!

I don't care for 3D either. I tried it a couple of times, but I much prefer 2D. I play Lake Superior. I have minor chars on other shards, but LS is my home. It is a pretty full shard as far as housing goes, although you can find a spot now and then to place without having to buy existing home.

Hope you find a real nice spot to call home and good friends to buddy up with. Welcome to UO.

Re: HI, brand new!!!

I personally play 3d for 2 reasons , the backpack is much easier to organize , and in 3d u have eternal daytime , never gets dark and for a warrior with no magery or nitesight comes in handy. now when i am with a large hunting party i do play 2d because of lag . i recommend if ur connection/pc fast enough try both and decide for self....
i play on atlantic ,very over crowded with lil to no house spots unless you beat the reality co.
as for ur advanced char i recommend a tamer is the hardest in my opion and the most valuable as far as income is concerned . the token starts u with ave skills of 85 and for most skills this is easy it is after 85 it gets hard to gain .

Re: HI, brand new!!!

Well I replied to this thread yesterday... I wonder where that went!!!
I play exclusively 2D now, but there are quite a few UOF memebers that play 3D. It truely is a matter of preference, and a lot of folks like myself just play 2D out of habit because when we started there was no 3D and it's hard to change the game you love even when you're not really "changing it".

Re: HI, brand new!!!

I started in 3d. 3d has some significant advantages.

1. Other than the backpack....ALL containers seem to be LARGER. You can use all the space in the container to store things. So, when it comes to organization and storage, 3d wins over 2d hands down.

2. Party bars. 3d party bars are much more manageable than 2d. When players join a party in 2d, bars jump across the screen. Not so in 3d.

3. Targeting. For me....targeting was MUCH easier in 3d than in 2d. Not sure why or if it was "just me."

4. Macros. Setting up UO macros is much easier in 3d than in 2d. For some reason, I can use some KEYS to assign macros to in 3d that I cannot in 2d.

5. Just about EVERY interface tool is easier to use in 3d than in 2d.

On the other hand..2d has advantages as well:

1. It runs much more smoothly. Less lag by far in general.

2. Many of the graphics simply look better in 2d than in 3d.

So..play around with them and decide what you like best. (On the graphics issue, as I started in 3d, I used to think that 3d looked better than 2d. It took me a while to change my mind). But...a warning. If you store items in 3d and change to 2d, all of your carefully organized stuff will just be jumbled up together when you open the container in which it is stored.

Good luck. Welcome.
