Help me understand some stuff

Im new to UO, i just downloaded the 2d client today...after 7 hours of downloadin the KR client and tryin to get that one to work. So i just went with the 2d one. Went necro class and im likin it so far. So far from my understanding, people can actually steal items from another play. I like the fact that it's possible, kinda cool in my opinion buuuut, some questions araise from this for me.

1. Is there a legal system?
2. If you bartor/trade with a thief, or heal im in combat. Does that affect your standing with any faction or reputation to a city or whatever?
3. If so, how can you tell who to watch out for?
4. If an account has a thief and if it is noticable, does it affect his other characters?

So far the game is comin out to be pretty cool, even after the fact how old it is. Have another post goin on the general uo forum about crafting and dont know If i want to have another character be a smith or anything. Im new, theres still alot of experimenting to do.

Re: Help me understand some stuff

You cannot steal from a player or be stolen from unless you are in Fellucca. Since you are a new player, you won't be able to go there yet. And personally, I would keep the [young] player tag for as long as possible. It gives you a bit of time to adjust to things without being attacked by everything you see.

There is no reputaion in UO. Not to cities and such anyway. Once you start killing things and using those necro spells, you will notice the title on your paperdoll changing. It reflects your fame and karma. Since it's hard to keep positive karma on a necro, don't worry about it. If you venture off into some areas, you may get attacked by things like unicorns or pixies, since they are good aligned and dislike negative karma things. That's a bit down the road for you yet tho.

On your account, you can have a thief, a murderer (aka red) or a "glorius lord" paladin. Each character is judged by it's own merits, and one will not affect another.
