Help with basic templates

Hello everyone,

I'm after some help to get my template section right
I haven't hunt in a long and even if I know the use of skills and their interactions, I'm out of the new trends...

So I'd like your assistance in determining which skills (and stats) are good for the following templates :
  1. Samurai
  2. Ninja
  3. Archer
  4. T-hunter
  5. Doom Thief
  6. PvP Dexxer
  7. PvP Mage
If you have some other good templates, I'm interested.

Three remarks though :
  1. It is designed for newbies, take a skill cap of 700 and stat cap of 225 into account.
  2. If you can explain a bit the way the skills are used in the template, that would help a lot too.
  3. If your template has to rely heavily on items, please specify which.

I don't ask you to answer for all templates One is already a great help. And you can give different answers for the same template too.

Thanks in advance

Re: Help with basic templates

Ok, only one I can give some advise would be the archer:

Stats:
90 Str (for HP and carry stuff)
110 Dex
25 Int (Mana for Chiv Spells)

Skills:
100 Archery
100 Tactics
100 Anatomy
100 Resisting Spells
100 Healing
100 Chivalry
100 Focus or Meditation

This is a standard archer templat. When you further raise the primary skills, lower Healing to 90, Chiv to 90 or 70 (depends if you want to use holy light) and Focus/Med as needed.
Playstyle is quite straight-forward on this one:
Stay out of reach, attack with you bow and use you spells to deal damage (Censecrate Weapon and Enemy of One when not much other spawn is around) and keep you Stamina up (Divine Fury) to hit often.

Equiment advise:
High resists are always good, but on an archer fire and energy resist are prime. Aim for Mana Reg and Lower Mana Cost on your armor and Swing Speed and Mana Leech on your Wep.

Hope this helps a bit.

Re: Help with basic templates

PvP Mage, well a necro mage is the flavor of the month right now, something like:

120 Magery
120 Eval
120 Resist
120 Spirit Speak
105-110 Necro
110-115 Med

Intel 125, Dex 20, Strength 80

Items? Well, yeah, you're gonna want 100 lrc, 40 lmc, as much MR and MI as you can get. Some very useable items for this template include the Pendant of the Magi, Hat of the Magi, Kasa of the Ra-jin, Staff of the Magi, Rune Beetle Carapace, and the Ornament of the Magician. You really want to get your strength and intelligence as high as you can with items. I would also invest in at least a +20 stat scroll as fast as I could.

Re: Help with basic templates

A quick note about the item list jfk provided:

If you pay close attention, you'll notice the only armor slots you have left with a mage template are: ring, legs, sleeves, gloves. If you can get a Crystalline Ring, that slot is lost as well. This means you are going to need barbed runic-crafted high LRC items with decent resists and MR1 at a minimum.

It's not hard to get, but it can be frustrating. I use the following (practically mandatory) items on my mage:

Kasa of the raijin
Pendant of the Magi
Rune Beetle Carapace
Arcane Shield
Boomstick
Quiver of Infinity
Crimson Cincture

With the following "optional" gear:
'Owned By' Blood Spirit (don't have a Totem)
3/1 ring w/12% LRC and some resists
Bracelet w/15% physical resist, FCR 2, and some magery (no orny)
89 resist sleeves
60+ resist gloves w/LRC 19
70+ resist leggings w/MR 1 and LRC

Suit totals are something like: 70/63/70/70/75, MR 9, LRC 100, LMC (forget), SDI 42.

I don't PvP, so I leave my SoM and/or Staff of Pyros at home.

PvM Necro Mage Weaver Template for this character:

100 Spellweaving
110 Magery
110 EI
110 Med
105 Necro
100 SS
110 Resist

Re: Help with basic templates

Sorry - forgot to mention that, in order to get to 42 SDI, I swap out my boomstick for Scrapper's when I start casting WoD.

Re: Help with basic templates

Stealth Ninja Thief:

100 Snooping
100 Hiding
120 Stealth
120 Stealing (because sometimes you just have to go to Doom)
120 Ninja (theoretically)
20 Necromancy
100 Magery
100 Poison

Ninjitsu: Animal Form, Shadowstrike, all the thiefy goodness
Necro: Wraith Form, using Ossion Grimoire
Magery + Poison = 200; 100% chance to DP

I also stone off Magery for Fencing occaisionally, even though that doesn't give me 100% DP chance...

Required gear:

Blessed Burglar's Bandana (extra 30 skill)
Shadow Dancer Leggings (extra 40 skill)
Blessed New Player Quest weapons and armor

Re: Help with basic templates

Treasure Hunter: These templates will differ by personal preference. I like:

100 Cart
100 Lockpicking
120 Provoke
115 Music
110 Peace
110 Magery
110 Med

I used to carry 100 mining to allow me to dig up chests more easily, but I found that I ran out of mana too quickly. This template kills chest spawn by provoking and by using peace to give EVs and EEs a chance.

Required items:
+45 worth of skills on jewelry. If you can't find the right combinations, drop magery and med to 100.

Re: Help with basic templates

Tamer Bard: You didn't ask for it, but it is my favorite solo-char.

120 Taming
120 Lore
110 Vet
110 Music
120 Discord
110 Peace
100 Magery

Total of 790 skill points. To achieve this, you need:
Songwoven Mantle
Talisman that gives you +5 taming/+5 lore
A set of taming jewelry to control your beast
A set of discord jewelry plus a fishing pole with + discord to hurt your intended target
A set of luck jewels that you can swap for any of the above - because, after all, you're farming peerless or named monsters with this character. I use a Ring of the Elements and a 100 luck bracelet with nice mods. Armor of fortune and a 10th anny statue helps.

Re: Help with basic templates

With the Archer you need bushido. It is a must. He is my archer template and he does very well.

115 Archery will be 120
105 Chiv
120 Anatomy
120 Tactics
110 Bushido
100 Med
40 in resist

with bonus

str 101
dex 150
intel 45

My skill cap is at 710. The reason I have med and focus is becaue right now I don't have the armor for mana regen and LMC. But I am piecing it together now and then it I will add 120 resist.

I use a 4/6 to heal and cure.

Ancient Samurai Helm
Stromgrips
Primer of the Arms taili
bow with FC 1 with HML
rings and bracelet 1/3 with damage increase
Rune Beelte Carp
Regular sleeves and leggings

With bushido alwasy honor anything before you attack. You get a damage increase bonus. always use lighting strike it maxs out your HCI. With 105 chiv you never fail at holy light and if you get in trouble cast disp evil and watch them run lol.

Is bushido worth the skill points to put on an ancher?

100 Hiding
80 stealthing (change ring for doom 100)
110 stealing (change ring and bracelet for doom 120)
100 snooping
95 magery.

As you can I am very dependant on items.

Shadow Dancer leggings
Burglar's Banadana
Pendent of the magi
Stitcher Mittens
sleeves and tunic with LRC
ring with 1/2 15 ninja, 12 HCI
bracelet 1/2 9 fencing,

As far as any information I can give just read UOTHIEF.COM | Episodes Comics RPG Maker Games RMXP Stories Flash Movies Thief FAQ UO Ultima Online Chad Sexington. I am still learning this but Chad has a lot of information on this subject.
