Well here my only questions because the rest is answered once I know...

What does HCI and DCI mean? I swear I need a UO termonology book here at my desk until I learn them all!

HCI = Hit Chance Increase

DCI = Defense Chance Increase


And this wasn't an all out "I want HCI back on shields!!!one11!" or "I don't want HCI back on shields!!!eleventeen!1!" thread. Mostly a, figure it out and do one or the other, but don't do both type thread.

You can still get a HCI shield. The order shield from vesper has 15% HCI, and is still attainable. You just have to donate enough to the museum to get it. So the whole idea of getting rid of HCI on shields wont work because that would screw over anyone who has taken the time to go and get that vesper shield. There is no need to fix this, because you can still get a HCI shield. However, the really good HCI shields are all old school ones, which in my opinion is how it should be. They should reward vets who've stuck it out through the years with a few good things.

Basically, the way i view items like this, is the way i view event items. For a period of time, these items were available to the player. Then they stopped making them. Similar to a long run event persay. You don't hear anyone complaining about the lack of availability to an event item, and you shouldn't hear one about these shields.

These aren't event items we're talking about. It's easy to say, "Oh, well I'm a vet and I stuck it out, therefore my pre-patch item should remain as such" when you have the pre-patch item, but it's a lot different from the perspective of a younger player that does not possess that item.

And please, for the love of the Virtues, please don't give me that tired old argument: "Well why doesn't the newb just save their money and buy one?" No. I don't want to hear it.

If it's some decorative event item collecting dust in someone's house, I could care less. However, there needs to be some consistency here in items that directly affect game balance. Either shields have HCI, or they don't have HCI. So they need to either remove HCI from replica Order shields and all shields from the game, or start spawning shields with HCI again. I wouldn't mind if they removed it, but what I really want is consistency.

Well considering I left for 5 years, and didn't get back till June when you could only get a HCI shield in vesper, I didn't "stick it out." I didn't have access to that item, but I wanted it, so I saved up for it. Rather than take the complaining route, I saw what I wanted and I made the effort to get it. So what you're telling me is that they should screw me over cause I made an earnest effort to attain an item that I wanted? Yea, that's fair.

Pardon me while I roll my eyes. Sorry, but the whole "I went out and earned it as opposed to whining about it on a forum" is truly old to me. I also like this:

It seems you've also stumbled past my main point, which was regarding consistency. That is, either have shields spawn with HCI, or don't have shields with HCI at all. Shields aren't like event items at all; they have a constant and direct impact on the balance of the biggest systems in the game.

Well they do have shields that have HCI that you can get, they're called the vesper museum order shields. I've said this in my last two posts, but you seem to be disregarding that fact. So the whole complaint about not having HCI shields is done. There is no complaint cause you can still get them, you just have to make an effort to get them instead of just killing a monster and praying for one to drop.

To disagree with my friend and ally, there should be no spell channeling shields with FC1, then.

You would also have to eliminate every single pre-AoS Invulnerable shield in the game as well, as no shields currently spawn with that many resistances before enhancement.

And to drag this thread out even more, if "sheelds shudn't help u hit better" then a blooming freaking quiver shouldn't have a DCI bonus on it, either.

"but ternance!!1" they cry, "hic sheelds dont spawn still!!1"

DCI quivers never spawned. Ever. They're a promotion reward. Now if someone wants to sit there, and tell me they have a "right" to a hit/defense bonus on an item because they spent real money for it to be there, yet I shouldn't have it on my item because it stopped spawning that way, then they need to revaluate their priorities.
