Using the proper resolution settings in Windows and in KR is very important in terms of the clarity of the picture you'll see.
I wish more people realized that. Most people I work with have their resolution set at 1024x768 and we have dual LCD's, then they complain that text is hard to read. *sigh*

EDIT: add me to the list of people whom stopped crashing with the latest patch. When I came back I downloaded and tried out the KR client, got myself killed shortly after loading it up, then proceeded to crash every 1-2 mins as a ghost as I tried to make it to get myself rez'd. Since the new patch I have yet to crash except when I log out/quit, then it's about a 70/30 chance that the client will crash.

Re: Haven't crashed since the 6/22 patch

I finally crashed once today, upon death. I had a changeling chasing my butt and I was running, but he got me with a flamestrike. I saw my health bar go to zero, but instead of hearing the patented death moan and seeing everything go grey, KR hung up and went to a black screen. Windows gave me the "KR is not responding" bit, and I had to restart the client. Of course, when I logged back in, I was appropriately.... dead.

I'm trying to post the resolution stuff in a few places, as it's one of those things that only geeks cared much about in the olden days, but now that there are SO many types of monitors and video cards, you really have to pay attention to how your equipment is set up to get the best performance out of it.

My 3 year old video card was too old to properly support my 6 month old 22" widescreen LCD monitor. I had no idea - I thought my video card would be fine, as it was a high end card when I bought it. Nope. And the whole native resolution thing really makes a difference in clarity - not just in gaming, but for text and everything else!

It's not necessarily about upgrading equipment - but it's definitely about making sure that your existing hardware is configured properly for optimum performance.

I absolutely love KR since getting everything set up properly. It made THAT much of a difference!

Re: Haven't crashed since the 6/22 patch

yeah the scaling makes a huge difference, even on very high-end LCD's you're going to get some blur even if it's slight, just the nature of the beast.
Best way to do if you HAVE to use lower res is allow the video card to scale the image rather than the monitor, especially if it's a pretty high quality video card, they will scale the image quite a bit better than the monitor itself. Should just be a setting in your display properties.

Re: Haven't crashed since the 6/22 patch

I haven't crashed since the patch either....of course I haven't died since the patch so I don't know what to expect. I lost all my gear and money from crashing a few days ago as I died and couldn't log back in for a day-I guess I got looted or something.

Your body only sticks around for 10 minutes I think? then it and everything on it decays.

Re: Haven't crashed since the 6/22 patch

Yup you have only a few minutes to get back to your corpse. First it's your corpse. Then it turns to bones. Then it vanishes (along with anything that was in your backpack or on your body).

There is an option to buy insurance on your armor and items. In KR, shift-right-click on yourself and you'll see 2 things you need: toggle item insurance, and auto renew insurance. If you want to use insurance, you'll want to toggle item insurance ON for each item you want to insure (such as your armor). It costs 600gp per item to insure it.

If you die, and have insurance, those items will remain in your backpack even if you don't get back to your body.

If you have auto-renew insurance ON, you'll be charged another 600gp per item to renew the insurance. You must have those funds available in your bank box, otherwise the insurance will not renew.

Insurance can get VERY costly if you die alot, particularly when you're training, but it's a nice option to have once you have a good resist armor suit that is worth insuring.

Otherwise, just try like heck to get back to your body before it decays!
