Gems for recipes

Where can I find the special gems used for smithing recipes? What mobs drop these gems and where do I find them? I have done forum searches for this info and not found any viable info; can I get a lil help here.
Havn't played since "Third age" and am still in a state of awe/wonder from all the changes

it depends on which gems you need. Most are gotten through the mining aspect of the game. Gm mining adjusted or better will get these to start dropping. 80 fishing or above to get the White Pearls and Gm lumberjacking to get the Briliant Amber. All other gems are from mining. They can be slow to drop but they will drop for Elf or Human gatherers.
