Hi Jeremy,

I've sent you a Private Message, can you please let me know if you received it?

Thanks

Probably I'm substantially behind on my PMs. I will try to clear all of those before
the weekend, and if you sent one about getting an invite to the private forums, see the latest UOHerald
post for an update/clarification on those.

Beta Invite not usable - can I give it away?

You can NOT give a beta invite away until we lift the NDA. Then, as you wish.

Where is UO KR Beta NDA ???

Greetings,

You know what they say "The first thing You lose Your sight on is the eyes".

I'd like to read through the EA/Mythic UO: KR NDA to be sure not to break it.

I can't find it. It isn't enclosed in the invitation nor as a link in it.

I just checked it isn't on the uoherald kr beta sign-up.
UO: KR Beta Sign-Up

I just can't find it.

Can someone help me with a link to it, please !!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's actually in the client itself.
Getting the Beta Client
Do NOT use download accelerators - Fileburst does not allow them and will temp ban your IP.
Download managers are fine, but accelerators lock out other people from getting the files and it makes Fileburst cranky.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

OK here is a question for you.....In previous betas they disabled the beta from being used.
Will this beta, since it is just a client upgrade be able to be continued to used? I for one would not one to
have to go through this any more than I already have to.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Uthar, are you asking if you'll have to redownload it when it goes live? If so, I don't believe so
- we'll just patch out the "Beta Client" warning. If that changes, I'll let y'all know.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Morning. Got my invite, ty.

No where did it say to use a download manager to download this. That really needs to be put in there
and sites that we can get them from.

As for the site that is hosting this download, sorry to say it but 40k stinks. With all the cable and T1
users out there they really need to bring on more resources to do this. I can down load on an average of
900k from other sites so a 1g file really isn't that bad. But 9 hrs to download this is a little to much.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We're having some bandwidth issues and are scrambling to fix them - in the meantime,
though, no download accelerators!
E. Jeremy Dalberg
UO Community Coordinator
EA Mythic
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
yes, but:

what's the difference between an accelerator and a manager? and which do I have?

Someone who knows about these things please look and tell me?

There's an option that defaults as
'number of simultaneous connections to this site' 'unlimited (ticked box)' should I set that to '1'?
http://www.flashget.com/en/about.htm

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Petra - yes. It's the multiple simultaneous connections that cause problems.
(Beta Question) Was being 18 a requirement?
Hey guys.
I know this is going to seem like a "GRR I didn't get a beta spot post!", which in a way it is, but I'm not going
to sit here and rant because while I am disappointed, I'm mostly curious about why I did not get in.
I know I have at least one mark on my account, perhaps that is it, but I have a sneaking suspicion it's because
I was honest about my age (17) on the form.
I know I filled the form out thoroughly and completely, I know that I filled it out while there were still spots left.
From what I gathered, that pretty much garunteed you a spot. I guess not! Now, I don't know how many people
didn't get one, maybe it was more selective than we were led to believe, and that would be a reasonable explanation.
Here comes my main question: Was being 18 a major requirement? If so, why weren't we informed of that?
It would have really helped to know that there was no use signing up if you're under 18.
Again, I'm not trying to rant (which I know I have, I'm sorry), but I just want to know if the reason I didn't get
one of the spots is because of my age. As I posted in another thread, as far as I know someone under the age
of 18 cannot enter into a legally binding contract (NDA), so I completely understand if that is the reason.
Then again, I'm probably posting this all for nothing. I was probably left out because of my marks or specs
or something, even though the way the distribution of the slots was portrayed, anyone who filled it out
completely while there were still some left would get one.
Sorry if I seem like a cry baby, I'm really not trying to. I am disappointed, but I know it's not the end of the world.
Congrats to all who got beta spots, and I look forward to your replies
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

While the NDA is active, being 18 is a requirement. I didn't explicitly post that because
it's not all that useful to tell everyone exactly how to game the system The NDA will be lifted fairly soon,
though, so everyone will get a crack at it before it goes live.

E. Jeremy Dalberg
UO Community Coordinator
EA Mythic

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thank you for the reply.
Will we have to reapply when the NDA is lifted, or will the old applications still hold?Thanks.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I believe we'll be doing something different when the NDA lifts - as you may have noticed
by the vast number of threads complaining about our download site, we're not all that well equipped to serve
1+gig files to tens of thousands of people at once. So no, your current app will not be used for that phase.

2 Technical Questions for the KR Beta

Greetings,

General questions.

1. Will one be asked to install the KR Beta over the current UO Directory thus replacing current 2 Graphic Files etc. ???
Asking since then Inside UO, UO Super Viewer and UO Character Viewer might not work anymore.
Love using those for creating screenshots or animated gif's like my sig. Also because need to know
if in another Directory how much HD Space is required ???

2. Will one have the choice when logging in to either chose 2D client or KR Client, like one had with
the 2 Client and 3D Client or is the choice made once You accept to install KR Client and then 2D is buh bye ???
Asking this since Beta might be buggy and if going on a quest or peerless I'd like to chose 2D to avoid getting
killed from bugs.

Anyone knowing this can answer without breaching NDA I hope.

If not here, then where can I ask such questions and expect to get an answer asap and not wait 2-3 days before Tech Support finally answer.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They're separate programs, in separate directories.
###############################
DEVS: KR bug reports
Few short questions:
1. Do you track player location where bug was filled or we must supply coordinates by hand?
2. Can I track number of submitted bugs ?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1) Yes, if you stand at the location you're reporting it'll send that directly to us.

2) Go ahead

3) uobeta@ea.com or the in-game bug report tool.

E. Jeremy Dalberg
UO Community Coordinator
EA Mythic

#################################

Why not make KR Forum readable by LogIn only, so we can discuss these problems

Just to make sure everyone's clear - Stratics is not owned by EA, and doesn't have
any special pass on the NDA. They also have no way of knowing who really has beta access. So this idea won't work.
I know everyone is excited to talk (rave, complain, suggest, nitpick) about the KR client, but send in feedback,
and we'll get the NDA lifted as soon as we reasonably can.

Re: [ FYI ]Dev's responses to many Beta Questions

A plea for access to the Beta Forums

Jeremy, is there really no possibility that those of us that just got into the beta can be allowed to access the beta testing forum? Honestly, at this point after messing around with the beta client, I feel ... don't know how else to say it ....cut off from the rest of the testers and basically useless and clueless.

To my pea-sized brain, it just feels like there's no point in me sending you bug report after bug report for the obvious stuff that I see right now while I'm still learning to use the client. By now you certainly must have already received dozens if not hundreds of reports on the obvious bugs and 99% of mine are just going to be duplicates clogging the pipeline.

It seems like the time and money spent going through all our duplicate reports would be better spent giving us access to the forum. That way, we can see what's already been reported, maybe learn a little faster how to function in the beta client, and then focus on doing more advanced "stuff" in the game where there just might be a few things that no one else has caught yet. It would also allow us to see any messages you or the developers have that are meant for beta testers only and that discuss the new client and therefore can't be posted elsewhere.

Can't you please have the appropriate people re-examine the decision not to let us into the forum?

It would literally take us longer to invite everyone to the forums than we have before the NDA is lifted. It's just not practical. I know it kinda sucks - it's not ideal for us, either, believe me - but it's the way it's gotta be for a week or so.

just a question... why was there never any automatic system? its pretty easy to either add it so only certain emails can register, or set it so we automatically have accounts based on the beta account list...

Because it was never designed to be a large scale forum - the internal forums are used for specific, small-scale purposes for DAoC and WAR.

it's unbelievable to me that you have to come here and post this same message again that you posted yesterday. everyone has such a thick skull that they simply cannot accept something even when they read it with their own eyes.

A plea for access to the Beta Forums

It would literally take us longer to invite everyone to the forums than we have before the NDA is lifted. It's just not practical. I know it kinda sucks - it's not ideal for us, either, believe me - but it's the way it's gotta be for a week or so.

-------------------------------

Good deal then!!! In a week questions may be asked !!!

Yay as I am frustrated beyond belief now.

-------------------------------
OK. So here is my problem. I am in the beta and I have read the Playguide. There are many things that I have questions on how to do but am unable to ask them here. So where do I go because I really do not know if it is a bug or if I am doing something wrong. Please we need answers so we may better test something this new.

-------------------------------
You understand that the new beta testers are adults and not thirteen year olds I know because being age 18 was a requirement on the beta application. Why are we not being treated like adults?

If you (Mythic) test betas using the input of only 1000 testers, then invite 4000 more simply as the maid service to help clean up the messes the important testers didn't get around to in the past two months, then why not just be honest and upfront about it?

--------------------------------
Paris, I don't know where you're going with that. All of the "how do I???" stuff and the feedback sent in through the forms is absolutely vital - if it's not obvious to 9/10ths of you how to do x in the new client, then we need to fix x so that it is. Sure, it would be incredibly handy for all of us to let y'all talk amongst yourselves and sort some of it out - poor QA is busier than they'd expected to be - but it's still crucial data.

E. Jeremy Dalberg
UO Community Coordinator
EA Mythic

-------------------------------

Dont forget folks,if you need to report anything email the problems you are having to uobeta@ea.com include your system specs. ....tabby
