![]() | Re: First Skill you ever gave up on GM'ing? gave on blacksmithy in '98 where GGS and powerhour didn't exist...nor smelting (ARRRGHHH!). Back then GM smiths were the ultima character. Most people who ran really big guilds were successful GM smiths with dozens of vendors. But since PH and GGS I made 4 GM smiths on different shards ![]() Same with magery. In '98, after spending all my gold on regs and macroing for days (yes macroing was once legal) without getting a single gain I gave up on GMing magery at around 94.something skill. In the next 6 months where I played my mage I did not manage to get my skill up to 95 magery Talk about skill gain being hard.easiest skill to GM ever for me: parrying. Shorly after OSI introduced powerhour you could gain insane amounts of parry skill by just fighting lots of creatures at once. ANY creature. I GMed parry in 2 hours fighting rabbits and other smallish critters in the woods. They fixed that a few days later though. |

Guaranteed Gain System:The Guaranteed Gain System, or GGS, tracks each successful use of a skill, and whether or not skill points were gained in the wake of that success. If no skill points are gained over a given period of time, then GGS will award the character a minimum skill point gain as compensation. Remember, characters will only be able to gain skill after having successfully performed an action. http://guide.uo.com/skill_1001.html ![]() ![]() One Nation.....Under Snugs!! |

![]() | Oh, I've given up on TONS of skills. Fishing Hiding Stealthing Stealing Any and all of the bard skills (although I started working on Music in the blackrock area, and now I've got that up to GM on a newbie character  ) I gave up on Inscription for a while too, but now I'm working that again, and hopefully it will be GM soon. And TAMING. I've given up trying to work that skill, and I'm just shooting for GGS gains now. |

![]() | Re: First Skill you ever gave up on GM'ing? I gave up on blacksmithy for my FIRST crafter. I had this awesome idea to make a new crafter guy who woulnd't mine (he'd get his ingots from the first guy) and he'd be a faction crafter. So the second guy GMs fairly quickly during and after the old days of the "Power Hour" code word. I bought all my ingots, crafted up a bunch of goods, then mostly re-bought ingots from NPC alone without paying other players for them just by selling what I made. That zipped along. To commeorate everythiing, I went to fel to gain that last .1 skill point. I also wanted to do tailoring, but that was slower than smithy. This faction smith was going to produce recalls, faction blessed armor & weapons, and faction blessed arcane clothes. What happened next? AoS and it's stupid insurance thingie. So now I've got a GM tinker/GM miner with 90 smith AND a GM smith/ 95 alch/70 tailor. And what happened next? Power scrolls! Now if you don't have "Legendary" in your title, your crafter stinks. Count me out. ![]() |
