Re: Events or Scenarios?

Yea, I don't see the point in events personally, unless they're long lasting and add new content.

For those that don't know, Scenarios were cancelled ages back, I think their excuse was it delayed publishes?

My all time favorite scenario was the introduction of the Solens....of course I had an ant hill on my front door step! Great fun!! Killed anyone shopping at my house and I could hardly get home! What a blast.
Heh, totally agree

My old tower backed onto the destard swamp area, that was the first area the savages showed up at

That was freaking awesome
I remember my friends and I collecting the coloured masks they'd drop and putting them into order on my tower roof
Ah, the memories

Scenarios are definatly better than EM Events, there's just no comparison
Anyone/everyone could take part in the scenarios and they were all unique and brought lasting, decent content into UO.

Re: Events or Scenarios?

God I used to call into work when a new Scenario arc would be happening. When they introduced "the next week" of it and what was happening next none of us could wait to log on. It was so much more fun than EM events are now.
Those masks... they weren't uber rare and worth 40 mil... they were just something new and cool to have. Everyone was trying to get a "full set" of them... why? because it was fun!!!
*sigh*
I hope a dev reads this thread. Those were the days I couldn't wait to log on. Never had to worry about "ok I'm logged on... gosh but what am I gonna do..."

I am not knocking EM events. They are fun if I happen to be on when they happen, and if I could have both why hell yeah! But if I had to choose... sorry EM events aren't an ounce of fun compared to scenarios. They aren't even close.

Re: Events or Scenarios?

I voted for scenarios.

Some of my favorite memories in the game were from scenarios.. not to mention, it was a great way to meet other players sometimes. Every one would be trying to uncover secrets and sharing information about where to go or what to do.

My favorite was the solen quest, when the ants started showing up. Then a week later, I think, when the holes opened up in the ground... trying to find all the hole locations (which would change) and what parts of the hive they led to was fun. You'd see tons of players running all over the land through the middle of nowhere.

Then people started to figure out how to get to the middle of the hive (the secret location you can only get to by planting a green thorn into the desert). Not to mention the whole plant aspect of it, where players were trying to figure that out. I had lots of conversations with my house neighbors during that time... chatting about what plants to crossbreed and what resources some of them grew; discussing ant hole locations and solen quests and helping each other out. It really seemed to build community..

I also liked the LBR scenarios... iirc, the Juka invasion changed locations. I remember hunting (and dying) in Yew, Trinsic, Jhelom and Minoc. The best part was everyone trying to fight them, and then people protecting the bank areas for players who had died and were re-equipping so they could get back into the fight.

Re: Events or Scenarios?

I would actually like to see both.
Problem with just Events is just like F'Nor pointed out, they don't last for more than a couple of hours.
Problem with Scenarios is if you get too many of them they get "frusterating" and boring.
Like the RP behind the Orc Invasion and the savages was neat. Solens were pretty cool too.

So I can not vote for any of them.

I do think that having both going(maybe not at the same time, but like Events for 2 months, Scenarios for 2 months or maybe mix it up per shard?

*raises hand* I had no idea THAT'S what was meant by scenarios, I thought it was just AOS, SE, ML, type scenarios. When you put it that way, I would go with scenarios over events.

Re: Events or Scenarios?

I wish folks voting for events would say why.... I really can't comprehend why people would think they are better.

Savages, no warning they were pet killers.

I can't remember too many more scenarios than that lol My memory ain't so good des days.

I guess the boring ones came later on, when the scenarios were winding down. Some of the scenarios were left going between patches.....and we know how long that can be sometimes....

Re: Events or Scenarios?

Voted for scenarios, though I think we need both. Scenarios in general are superior, they change the world more and since they're long-lasting, everyone can take part in the experience as opposed to having to be there at that exact hour or miss the whole thing.

But, to keep the fiction going forward and to have some pivot points in the plot, events are needed too. I think the optimal situation would be that an event kickstarts a scenario, the scenario lasts and remains even after the actual plot is done, but during the scenario events are held that further the plotline.

So I would've gone for the "both of them!" -option had there been one

To be honest, I DO agree with that
Maybe they shoud've done the scenarios in places like T2A or Ilshenar where there's no housing.
I remember dying to those acid spitting ants to, very annoying, especially when they had the ability to spit through walls and doors, hehe
