First, let me begin by saying that I still find UO very entertaining and fun...with that, this is why:

I was messing around looking for a shard that gave me the best connection possible, since I am in Okinawa, Japan and I don't like my latency being at 297 and the best I have seen is around 64...Mizuho.

I popped onto Europa because somewhere I read that it was a fairly packed shard...I don't know if it is, it was pretty vacant when I logged on. I saw a lady on a horse, her name was Alcestis, and she had some rather interesting items on.

1) Boots: Member of the Royal Britannia Navy
2) Sash: Obsidian Warrior
3) Cloak: A tattered Mercaerin (sp) Cloak

I asked, "Alcestis, where did you happen upon these neat items you are wearing?" I waited in silence. A guy on a Llama rode by and another on a Mare stopped and then moved along. No response. So, I seperated myself form Europa and looked for an answer myself.

You see, it appears there is a lot going on in UO and I don't even have a clue. I stumbled across a page that listed these things called Event Items. They were listed in categories ... seasons then further into shards. From season 1 all the way to pre-season 5. There are hundreds of unique items listed, now classified as rares. WHERE THE HELL HAVE I BEEN? Under a rock? No, I am on a rock...Okinawa. However, not since season 1, when was season one and how could I have missed all this info?

Don't misunderstand me. I am not an item hound. You look at my loot and most of it is worthless. Deimos (no longer here by that name) has seen my loot and once told me I should just throw that trash away. I kept it. I may need it someday...smelting and such.

So, what was I getting at? I know many of the events that produced these items were advertised in some fashion in this forum, however, they did not seem appealing or I did not grasp the message, possibly both. Has anyone participated in any of the events that have produced these sorts of items? If so, how were they and did you have fun? Was the time invested worth the effort? Just curious, as I have missed season 1 through pre-season 5 and wish I hadn't...I want more fun!

I got a few items that way both on Siege nad Ches. Basically if your lucky enough to be on when the town criers start announcing the event. Most meet up to start, it turns into a lag fest and a lot of fighting (On SIege at least) get your item at the end. Some events are longer then others Some are better than others all depending on the shard EM.
But then I like to get those wierd items:-P

Yes, I agree. I would like to be more active in UO...hence the post. However, my connection sucks. If I move out into the local village, I can get a fiber connection. I have to wait and see if I get extended for a year...if I do, then I can go out into the little village and get a fiber connection! If not, I am stuck on this cable connection with a gazillion other losers and lagging behind everyone else. I don't know how I would connect the fiber...or how that works...but I heard it was a fiber connection! Then I can participate in those cool events and get my own damned boots of whatever!

Some events are fun, while others are not.

The most fun I had at an event were the dragon invasions of Britain. Dragons of all sorts would steadily spawn from the east and progress towards Castle British, and by this time the spawn was ancient wyrms and the like. It was pretty amazing when they pressed all the way into the throne room and it felt like one of those heroic, last stand moments.

And as a matter of fact, I do own an event item. Here's a picture of it.

I'd love to get involved in these events,,,,,hopefully, they'll have more soon.

Well, I do remember the invasion of Britain...when all those Ogre Lords, Titans, Cyclops Warriors and such were attacking. I fought against them numerous times...never got anything. But, that lasted for months if I remember it right. These events that give items are short? Couple of hours maybe?

Yeah, usually about 2-3 hours at that shards peak time...at least thats how it always was on Cats.

I went to a few of them and never really had that good a time. The communication issues were just hellish and you have people show up just to grief.

The Catskills EMs that I saw in action wee fairly lacking in planning and execution as well. Kinda shoddy...
