It doesn't make them experts in the game, they cover more than one type of game..you don't even have to know anything about UO to be a GM

As Adri said, what one GM says is illegal, another will say is perfectly fine
I've been noticing great strides taken among the GM staff to get all GMs on the same page concerning all issues, and eliminate the problems of past where one would approve of something and another would not. Everyone more or less knows that I hold the GM staff in high regard but this is honest observation on my part.

I'ma bake GM shaped Christmas cookies this year. Red sprinkles for GMs, green sprinkles for Seers. Then I can feel good about biting their heads off!

Re: Email/Letter from Marion of RPGBay

Even if they did make it "illegal" to sell stuff for RL cash, it wouldn't stop the sellers or buyers
They'd just goto Tradespot...oh wait, they dont' allow RL stuff

Ok, then they'd goto whatever other trade site is out there, hehe.

Or sell/buy direct from the brokers' website.

Re: Email/Letter from Marion of RPGBay

*shrugs*

Funny thing about all of this... Until recently, I always thought Marion was male, and Vita was female in the real world.

I remember Vita's website once saying that a percent of sales was donated to cancer research, which is why I bought something from her..him..even though it was slightly more than another broker's.

I remember thinking how nice Nalithra was for giving me a blessed crimson cinture when her..his..her..eBay auction was for a regular, nonblessed cinture. Now I wonder if she was duping blessed cintures...

Re: Email/Letter from Marion of RPGBay

I realize Gm's arent the final say, but the response from GM Adida was a response from a direct question (email) to EA. They said in certain terms that it is in fact against the TOS to sell in game items for real dollars. Argue all you want, I am quoting EA.
Truth be told I myself think it should be fine to sell whatever you want to whoever you want if you are paying a monthly fee. I have friends who make a living at selling virtual goods and I wouldn't want them getting into any trouble. So far they have been fine, but in the recent past they have had to rewrite hundreds of listings on ebay because of notices recieved from in-game reps. One had to move to canada because apparently the rules are different there. My point isn't that people should be stopped from selling the stuff, only that if they are going to have a policy in place it should be enforced.

Re: Email/Letter from Marion of RPGBay

Sorry Damin but you and the GM you "spoke" to are wrong.

Paragraph 8 of the ROC says...

With the exception of the sale of in-game items for in-game items or services, you may not market, promote or advertise anything, or make any other form of solicitation (including pyramid schemes and chain letters) through the Ultima Online Service or Ultima Online Web Site.

It only says that you can not advertise in game for out of game sales. However, it does allow you to advertise the ingame sale of ingame items while in game. It does NOT prohibit the sale of ingame items outside of the game.

Re: Email/Letter from Marion of RPGBay

Regardless, it doesn't really matter what any GM says because buying/selling virtual goods is a well-established practice. The real issue here is crooked sellers worrying more about their profit margin than having fun in a game.

Still we loom in the mists as the ages roll away,
And we say of our folk, "they are here!"
That they built us and they died and you'll not be knowing why,
Save we stand on the bare plains of Wiltshire.

Re: Email/Letter from Marion of RPGBay

It also poses the question that if those buying duped items in game are to be penalised, would it be the same for players who bought the same items offf ebay and had paid rl gold for the items?
