Re: EA needs to back pedal fast

There is only a few issues with KR I have... the problem with the avatar when mounted.. the skating in how the character moves on screen.. the look of the avatar being skinny and the angles are not all the same in the view.. the avartar seems to be tilted more verses how other objects are...

The for the game period what I dont like is that is its spotty in how it functions for all players... It plays fine for a few players and then for others even though they have systems that exceed the specs cant play it...

That issue is something that should have been resolved in per alpha.. no way should hardware be a issue this late in the game and they can not even say what hardware is what is the must have... and then even if they could that is so a step backwards in that UO was system friendly and now you are going to need specific hardware to run it?? I think not..

This claim some say that there needs to be just one client... well then there needs to be just one model TV produced.. one model car produced.. one style of bread produced.. one one one...

UO has been special for so long... giving the subscriber the choice of which style of the game they can play would be something that could be held over any other game.. UO has the depth that many other onliners do not have and then add to that two game options in which graphics one can use ....

Moving forward idoes not always mean its good, its a improvement.. least its not good in the boffing EA has done in handling this new graphic engine...

2d is not going away. Ive mentioned this many times. As long as people play 2d it will be here. The only client going away is KR. As for the new SA expansion. Yes this will only be available for KR clients for a while. This is so people who spent the time to play KR are rewarded by getting to view the new land first. KR is still in its test stage and there is no way EA would force players to switch to another client. As I have said time and time again when %95 of the entire player base switches to KR will they "think" about removing the 2d client.

I agree, 2d isn't going to bite the bullet for a very long time. Unless they have a burning need to alienate a large portion of the player base, they won't force a switch to KR.

Kingdom Reborn is at about 20% player use and has been in steady decline since launch. 2D isn't going anywhere.

Is that an estimation? or from actual figures released by ea?

It is based on samples taken using the friends tool. They accidentally released a method which allows you to determine what client a player is using. Only Kingdom Reborn users show up as being online.

Personally, I disagree. It took some time to get used to KR, but now that I have, I find it to be a much more enjoyable client to use and far superior to the 2D client.

But that's just me.

It's the little things like the fact that there is a delay between when I click and when my character finally decides to start walking. Running is just flat out clunky and awkward.

*sighs*

I like KR, yet I find it unplayable...

Im with Brom on this.

@kitiara

Thats great news considering the problems you first experienced, but like Brom said,if everyones PC would play it as you can, a lot more people would enjoy the new client.

For some of us it STILL isnt playable ,depsite upgrades to various bits and pieces.

To clarify, my problems with KR weren't KR's fault. I purchased a new 22" widescreen monitor that exceeded the resolution capabilities of my 3 year old video card. Once I got a video card that supported my monitor, KR looked as intended.

KR did go corrupt on me once, preventing me from logging in, but that was fixed by deleting one character's config file (and was not hardware related, as far as I could tell).

I played KR throughout the beta (on Vista, even), and while my computer is an up-to-date machine, I find KR's requirements to be suitable for a game manufactured in 2007, as compared to hardware specs of machines that are available at this time.

Of course, that's my opinion which is biased toward the fact that I work in technology and have a pet peeve against people thinking that their computers are supposed to provide a useful life of longer than a few years, particularly without maintenance or upgrades.

I agree with you on this. People who are running Win 98/Millennium should not expect KR to run smoothly and accordingly EA/Mythic should not cater to those people.

If KR was to use the full potential of the game engine, this game would be awesome (look at Oblivion.) I wish we could have a first person view and a free moving camera.

Re: EA needs to back pedal fast

I am planning on paying one more either 3 or 6 month subscription then seeing where it is... if 2D goes away.. so do I. The duration depends on my daughter and son in law; we pay our subscriptions together and that's a bundle sometimes for a 6 month for each of us... especially when not a one of us likes the KR....
