Saw this posted on another forum, check out the last part of this screenshot

It's supposedly from the "Games for windows magazine"

Re: EA to go after player run shards?

With regard to EA finally taking their intellectual property rights seriously, all I can say is: FINALLY.

Damned problem is they waited so many years, and now my mom's addicted to one of those player shards. She's gonna take it really, really hard if she can't play it anymore.

I so wish EA would have done this years ago

Oh man, this article is good on so many levels. It sounds like it was written by a very frustrated UO player.

Re: EA to go after player run shards?

EA is right. Player shards that reverse engineer the game are stealing intellectual property rights.

That said, I'm concerned now what will happen to my mom's decision. She has two real EA accounts plus is now GM of a player shard that she really enjoys.

Forced to make a decision between the two, now with all her frustration with the real UO, I fear she'd rather close her two EA accounts than quit the player shard.

EA is right. Player shards are illegal, wrong and theft.

But I'm still troubled, and I'm still frustrated they took so long to get to this stage

Re: EA to go after player run shards?

I am glad to see positive action being taken by EA. Most dupes start in player run shards and are brought to UO.

Oh that's okay. I mean, out of the "illegal, wrong and theft" part, EA is guilty of at least the latter two in regards to their treatment of the playerbase.

Ever go over the speed limit in RL, Arjuna?

Oh WT.....H?
You don't really believe that I hope. Oh certainly no dupes or exploits have ever begun on EA shards.

I can see the witch hunt starting here...cripes.

I bet there's much more roleplaying on player-run shards too, if you're going to point fingers.....

Re: EA to go after player run shards?

I think the real issue here is that EA is trying to phase out the preferred method of playing UO for some players (the 2D client) and then obliterating any chance to play that version of UO via player-run shards. This is not a good thing.

Re: EA to go after player run shards?

Terrance, how does that NOT make sense? Player-run-shards = Shards created by players that play with the code = know how to manipulate things in game (whether that be a REAL shard or fake shard).

Thanks again Maddux!
