Do you ... IDOC?

Sometimes I am able to attend IDOC's and in general they are lots of fun because I can chat with folks and hand out cookies

However, the last one I attended was just mind boggling. We, about 5 of us, were standing around just passing the time away waiting for the little, open to the public, house to go poof when suddenly ...
not only did it go poof but half the house was still standing when another house was placed. The items went under the sign, which okey that has happened alot but within a spit second the items (which were about 800) ended up on the porch of the new house secured.

After a couple of seconds we realize that the house had gone poof, a new house had been placed, and items from the old house were secured on the new porch.

It was just to fast and weird for the normal range of things but I wished the new owner good luck and a hearty congratulations on thier placement, then dropped a pan of cookies and recalled back home.

Have no idea how folks are able to do all that within 10 seconds .... and just thought I would share a day in the life of a social IDOCer.

Re: Do you ... IDOC?

They run scripts which allow them to do that.

Well when I placed my house at in IDOC somehow stuff got stuck UNDER my house and there was no way I was going to move that plot for the stuff so I was just going to let it rot but a friend of mine said, "Why don't you petition to see if maybe the GM's can help yeah." I did and someone did come down to lift all that stuff that got stuck under there.

No 3rd party programs on my end... it was a pure game fluke on my end. Also someone supposidly was stuck under my house as well... maybe they were but I think they stayed there long enough to see if they can steal all that stuff that was under there hehe. The GM said sense this happened the stuff is rightfully mine sense it happened. Alot of people were mad but my friend that has been apart of UO for 5 years told me they would have not done the same and sense I am a new person it was good it happened so I have some stuff for myself instead of having to buy / find it.

I had no clue of any of the value of any of it. Some of the stuff did fall under the sign of the house and that was yoinked hehe but more than half went under the plot I put up. The thing that upsetted me the most was the guild I was in at the time (I will never give the name of it) but anyway they were there and we all had equal chance for whatever we were there for.

I just wanted a house and I got the house... and after that thing happened with the items getting stuck under... they later came back and I was in hide mode sense I was designing my house... they had pack horses and llamas and ran around and around me house. They knew who I was and they knew I was there and everything but yet they go and do that... my own guild trying to steal from me =(

I do not do IDOC's no more... to me it seems like that is where the ugly side of people start to show and yeah. I mean not everyone is like that some and there just to do it... but some are just there for greed... total and utter / udder (sp?) Greed and I do not wish to be with in that crowd of people... do not want to be "known" as an IDOC'er I careless of it. I understand why people do it but the arsehole people are the ones that very much discourage me to do anything like that... I just stick to myself and play most of the time or anyone from here on the forums

People are always saying "Watch out who you hang with or trust" So I just pretty much stay to myself unless it was that friend that told me to just keep the stuff that was from under my house instead of handing it out to diffrent people.

But anyway... skip over most of that =P Your long-winded Carpathia strikes again hehe

Re: Do you ... IDOC?

UO tends to bring the ugly side out in ppl, which is a real shame. Most will stabb you in the back if given a chance. Dont let them ruin your fun.

Re: Do you ... IDOC?

I happen across IDOC houses occasionally, but don't much hunt them out anymore because of the scripting and greed involved. If I happen to find a site where the house has already fallen and the items still around, I'll go through them and take what I can, but I don't often camp a decaying house anymore.

Having said that, I camped a Ltower in the swamp N. of Trinsic on Cats, and after it fell the items went quickly, but no one placed for several hours. When they did it was another Ltower, of course.

I got my own Ltower by happening across the empty site after someone had demolished their own Ltower. There were still items, and I got some of those, and placed a 15x15 because that was all I could afford that day. A week later when the new house timer ended, I demolished the 15x15 and placed my own Ltower.

Wink Re: Do you ... IDOC?

I don't like doing IDOC because people tend to be nasty about them and i'm way to slow. They're like Ninja's!

Once though.. way back - pre Pub 16 - my friend Knightsoddessey left. He decided to leave his house to decay with all his treasures inside. I knew he had some good loot, one item, engraved wedding ring with my name on it and a Vanq Silver katana! I really wanted it bad so I camped out and his house fell and all the chests were locked and on in particular was really heavy. Me and my sister leaped frog these chests into town (scary for her! there was only fel back then and she was a trammy before trammel was even born). Anyways I finally get the chests open and what kind of wonderful loot do I find?????

FISH STEAKS

He totally got us all! He banked all his good stuff and split up a ton of fish steaks in all his chests! We got played!

Re: Do you ... IDOC?

Yeah, IDOCs are borked by scripters and simple time. Every single IDOC I have found and tryed to camp has fallen while I am at work...and I work evenings.

When I was working mostly days, thats when they all fell...

If they randomized it more, I wouldnt even bother, and if they made it less random (ie houses always fell at the same time or within a small window) scripters would get the bump and again the social IDOCers would be left in the cold...

A once very fun event perverted into a scripters-only contest....

Never IDOC'd before, just saying that sounds dirty, let alone "doing it".

Re: Do you ... IDOC?

I found my house not by IDOC hunting, but by fluke. It fell a few hours before, and I was just goin to my guildies house, and was able to drop a tower instantly. It is about 5 or so screens north of the yew gate in fel, so its got a great location. I eventually dropped the tower and put up the equivelant. I got nothing from the previous house, just the spot.
