Red face Darn fizzling magery

Hi, I have a fiarly new mage/thunter with the following stats;

mediation - 110 (real)
magery - 95.6 (real) 105.6 with a scrappers comp
locks - 93.6 (real)
cartography - 87.2 (real)
resist - 100 (real)
Parry - 70 (real)
Eval int - 93.1 (real) 102.1 (with a ring)

Int is 115
dex is 49
st ris 66

The problem i have is my mana regen is really bad even though the mage suit i am wearing has a +2 regen on each piece, the leggings, arms, gloves, headband and tunic. So when i fight anything worse than an orge lord. Like a large orge lord for instance i can cast fast enough to keep it occupied, i throw 2 energy vortex's at it and by the time its killed both i dont have enough mana to cast another. Is there a better way to get regen armour? does lower reg or lower mana give you a better mana regen?

The other questions i have are; even though i am close to gm mage i still get fizzles all the time casting and its really annoying, does 100 magery guarantee no fizzles? does it have to be real skill? does that fact i use magic items to boost my skill set mean that i am weaker than if it where real skill?

Also when my char is 6 months old i hear you get some stat increases, anyone know what they are?

Thanks for any help or advice anyone can give me.

Re: Darn fizzling magery

If you use the Meditation skill while the EVs are fighting (Actually use it, not just passively), you'll go into a trance and regen mana very fast and should be back to full before the EVs die. Just make sure you only use Leather armour because anything heavier will negate the meditation
Only Mana regen affects how quickly you regen. LRC and LMC only affect regs and mana cost.

GM Magery does not guarantee no fizzles, especially with 8th circle spells. I think I read somewhere that you need 119 skill to never fizzle, even on 8th circle.
As far as I know, real skill doesn't mean anything; most things are calculated on your current skill. That's why rings and bonuses are good.

As for your last question, I think when your account is 1 year old, you get 5 extra points added to your maximum skill allowance. What I mean is, you can get 705 total points now instead of 700. And you get 5 more for every year your account is active up to 720.

You can get powerscrolls for skills and stats to boost them over the maximum too. For instance, I'd suggest you find a 115 or 120 Magery scroll so you can get to a skill level where you'd never fizzle.

Re: Darn fizzling magery

Are you sure each piece of armour is "mage" armour? If you have anything on that is not mage armour it will hinder your mana regen

Re: Darn fizzling magery

Also what i noticed your chance to fizzle is alot less when the spellbook is actually in your hand and not in your pack

Re: Darn fizzling magery

It takes 114. something to not fizz on 7th Circle Spells, and basically 120 to never fizz on 8th circle spells. With that said, you WILL still fizz them if you are interrupted during casting. As was mentioned, make sure all of your armor is leather, or says "mage armor" on it if it's metal. Lower mana cost items reduce your cost of mana/spell, so get as much as you can...my mage's run with 40+%, which significantly reduces mana cost. Lower reg cost armor only reduces the reagents you need, it has no effect on your mana pool. Make sur you max your intelligence at 125, as that will increase your mana pool as well. Get your eval up as fast as you can too....that won't help your mana, but it does increase your spell damage, which should require fewer spells to kill something.

The stat increase after 6 months is a 5 point addition to your total stats or to a skill, your choice. Take the stat increase, as 5 points of skill won't mean squat in the long run.

This is a list of medable armor. If your armor is not n this list, and does not have the "Mage armor" property, it is not medable. I think this is your problem.

Also, since you are focusing on lvl 8 spells, you should strive to work some LMC into your suit. Good artifacts to throw in would be the boomstick, Vesper museum chaos shield (for FC1/2), rune beetle carapace, and pendant of the magi. Stitchers mittens are nice too
