Cry-babies over KR. Whaaa. :'(
This is what's getting me. Mythic EA has worked /so hard/ to bring Kingdom Reborn to fruit for the player base. Redraw every tile, revamp the spells to, from what I've seen from screen shots and videos, look awesome. When they release it, what monetary compensation do they ask for from the players? /Nothing/. It's free. Yet, still, I log on constantly to read posts, not really from uoforums (because we're awesome), but from other message boards where people are like "KINGDOM REBORN ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH. I'm leaving forever, this time!" When your Mommy buys you a new video game system, do you throw it on the ground, stomp around and throw a fit because it's not made of pixy dust and magic? Honestly, that's what I want to say to these people.
When they release expansions, people complain that they expect them to double their work effort by adding the new lands to both KR's engine, and 2D's engine. That's fine, pay double the price for the product, then, and don't complain when the features aren't as amazing because they have to be toned down for the 2D engine. The fact of the matter is, Kingdom Reborn is an effort to help Ultima Online. Not some half-ass attempt, but a real actual try. Ultima Online can't expect to thrive soley on it's cult fan base that'll be completely content with continiously growing more and more out of touch graphics. I understand that there are features of UO that aren't exactly up to everyone's standards from what we've seen/heard, but give it time, UO is not a small world, and it can always benefit from a member's constructive criticisms, but, frankly, threatening to leave because your freshly baked cookies aren't sugary enough is down right unappreciative to their effort, and just really childish. So, please, be forgiving with the new client, and together with our helpful advice and participation in the game can help make, at the very least, the community that Ultima Online is known for stay strong for many more years to come. ![]() Best, Tryken. |

It sure feels like a half-assed attempt.
I whine. ALOT. Im not a 2d lover cause I played 3d also. I just don't see why they will make a gfx engine that can't compete with the new mmorpgs anyways.

Re: Cry-babies over KR. Whaaa. :'(
They did state that their goal was to keep it running nicely on lower end computers. And they still have to make it co-exist with the 2D engine as is. Lastly, I know some people have motion sickness when it comes to 3D games (as was the case of a guild member of mine in a guild I ran on Ragnarok), so she could only play 2D MMOs.
I think Kingdom Reborn, from the screenshots and videos, is a nice step in the right direction. I can't really say much right now because custom content created for KR, such as the new expansion pack, hasn't been created, yet. I look forward to seeing how Stygians Abyss appears with KR before I make a judgment call on what they can do with their graphics engine. |

Saying that though, I hope it was worth the effort and it attracts new "punters" (as we in the UK say) ![]()

Re: Cry-babies over KR. Whaaa. :'(
With some people, you just can't win.
People cry that KR doesn't look modern enough. But if they ditched the low computer requirements and made a truly graphically fantastic game, those same people would cry that they couldn't run the game on their prehistoric hand-cranked computers. I think KR is a fantastic balance, and that EA has done very well CONSIDERING the ground rules they laid out (ie. keeping low system req's). Can't please everyone. Even the whining about people whining is annoying. ![]()

Yes kr is a good balance but will it attract new players spoiled with graphics from other games?

Re: Cry-babies over KR. Whaaa. :'(
I like the new client not sure yet if i like Everything bout it..But as they say nothings final when it comes to Beta thats why there are Beta tester to help give suggestions and point out bugs..I think they did an awesome job on alot of things but some things should have been left they way it was..But that doesnt mean im gonna leave the game I will adjust and get used to it as I did when I first started UO...

Game Development and Marketing are two different fields. Developer's made the client to enhance eveyone's gaming pleasure.

Re: Cry-babies over KR. Whaaa. :'(
I think they should make a fully 3d game and forget about the old 486 dialup people. They whine anyway and it would be less whining. I really like the DAoC engine and Graphics so I am sure they can do it if allowed.
Whiners are not needed anyway. A fully 3d game with the old ruleset (they did a Legacy server on DAoC and it drew many players back ) |
