| Guest | college connections bunk!?!? I am having a major problem. I use to play UO before Third Dawn and have recently decided to come back and play again. I now live in a college dorm and all other games seem to connect and work fine... However, I downloaded the UO client and tried to patch it but it would just time out and say something to the degree of: "“error reading (file name) link from socket” I can not patch or play at all! 1. no firewalls up, 2. antiviruses off 3. did the delete patch files thing 4. reinstalled...defragged hard drive... 5. I don't use a router I did all of these things and still no patch success! after some research, I am very convinced that it has something to do with some 'port' or whatever not being open. I am computer savy, but NOT 'network' savy whatsoever. I live on college campus and the name of our campus internet service is "ResNet". I am curious... what should i do to fix this problem? whom should i contact and what should i tell them in techno lingo so that they may enable UO connection capabilities? i apologize for sounding so helpless, but when it comes to networks, administrative settings and the sorts, i struggle for understanding. Thank you |

The client.exe file is most likely blocked on the network, as client.exe sounds to me very much like a virus.................. So they may need some persuasion to get them to add the file to a safe list. Failing that your network admin should know a whole lot more than any of us lot. |

![]() | Re: college connections bunk!?!? I had a friend who had the exact same problem when she was living on campus. I do remember her saying that she was able to get it fixed, but I don't remember what she did or who she talked to to have it fixed. You'll have to talk to the people who run the network at the college to see what they can do about it. Just don't be embarassed to tell them you need them to fix it so you can play a dorky role-playing game  - my friend was a freshman and was TERRIFIED about anyone finding out she played UO! She'd only play when she knew her roommate wouldn't be staying there on the weekend, or when her roommate was in class. Kylana |
