Re: Classic Server... Why the heck not?

That is what made this game (to me atleast) exciting to play, i dont know how many houses i lost out at the xroads and forgetting to bank my house key and gettn pk'd and running as fast as i can to get my house before they looted it. There is excitement still in the game, but seriously b4 insurance and trammel tell me this game wasn't 1,000 times more interesting...hell my hands would shake when i had 5 reds chasing me as i raced to the mountain pass ha, or the day when i finally turned around and fought back, and won *gasps* anyways, i would definately b up for playin pre-now

Don't forget that in those days, gear didn't account for as much. A good set of GM-made armor and you were ready to adventure. UO's turning into an item-based game that requires "hard work" was the end of it's charm in my opinion. If I want to camp for artifacts, I'll play an EQ clone, thanks very much.

I don't, and never did, PvP very much. But UO was the only game that really ever achieved a virtual society... bright chapels and dark alleys alike. I miss the days were you didn't know what was around the corner. Sure, I got ganked more than a few times... but I was also able to run to the nearest gathering spot and get a group of friends together to go hunt down the !!!!!!! that murdered me in cold blood.

Watching him get hammered by 6 blues was infinitely entertaining and immensely satisfying.

The good old days is not just an expression. Sometimes, it's a fact.

Re: Classic Server... Why the heck not?

Another question.

A big problem with AOS was the introduction of special resists and useless or overpowered magic properties.

Why cannot they do for Siege that only physical armor counts and all special damage is neglected. Also all weapons/spells only do physical damage. Then make Siege armor decent and you would have some sort of level playing field again.

You could keep special housing, elves. even special moves and not be far with the code from normal shards and still have an pre aos feeling with crafting and pvp.

The two biggest myths in MMOs:
  • "The old days".
  • And "balance".

Re: Classic Server... Why the heck not?

I for one, wouldn't play a Classic UO shard.
Why? Because its old and crusty!

Sorry but I enjoy PvP but I don't enjoy PvP and only PvP for a monthly fee. If I wanted to pvp all the time I'd play a FPS. The point of an MMO, in my mind, is for the world to progress, people to explore and find new things, new monsters, new races and such.

If you really want to go sit around and PvP on UO for hours, then sure, be my guest. I hope if they do bring back a classic shard they:
A. Get rid of those red NPC healers.
B. Make it harder to get rid of murder counts, if possible at all. Pre AoS and UOR I don't remember being able to get rid of these.
C. Get rid of all the hackers. Lets see how much people like to pvp when they don't have their extra program helping them.

Reds have it far too easy. In the beginning, there were VERY few reds. There was a reason for it. Being red meant the game was EXTREMELY hard to play. Now its just a cake walk.

Re: Classic Server... Why the heck not?

How would you feel if they made a shard where Doom was blocked off , and there was no insurance?

Makes UO not so item based atleast , I can see how that set up would be hard.

Probably not a good idea. Most PvPer's I know are the people who are puching for the classic shard. Most like the old graphics. I'd guess you would lose a large number of people based on the KR looks alone, as well as the slowed performance with the KR client...la

Re: Classic Server... Why the heck not?

I know I'm just daydreaming, but if the KR client was finished (fixed up and ready for primetime) and EA created a classic server with a KR-only restriction... almost seems like they could market it as a new game. UO 2.0'ish.

Re: Classic Server... Why the heck not?

See, I would be one if the group complaining about the new client if I were forced to play it. I have always hated UO's version of 3d art. I prefer the 2d look. UO has always been about the content rather than the general appearance of the game. I think the developers have forgotten this...la

Re: Classic Server... Why the heck not?

The majority of the player community in DAoC does not want them to spend time creating a new shard. They want them to spend time adding content to the existing shards. The same goes for UO. UO players want new content not outdated ideas that will draw players for a week or two before they remember that those system they remember so fondly were so UTTERLY flawed.

2) No AOS era stats
3) No Insurance/Blessings

That's a huge generalization obviously, but I think as long as they released a shard that met those criteria, it would qualify as "Classic" and would pull a lot of people back into the game.
I love how you can make a blanket statement like it would bring a lot of people back to the game without any evidence. I wouldn't play a game that was Felucca only when I started playing UO (my friend started back in the Felucca only days) and I will not do so now either.
