Chivalry is dead

Hi, can anyone help me please, My apologies I am quite new to this this game and my character is an archer/paladin and even though i have gm'ed archery, focus, 89.5 anat, 90.6 tactics, 70.4 mediation, 70.3 chiv, my character gets whacked nearly everywhere he goes, i can sometimes handle the orge place is despise? until lag hits me. I get killed nearly everywhere else. I think I may have chosen the wrong skill sets, being a paladin doesnt seem to work very well. Could anyone please advise me of what I am doing wrong in terms of skills I have chosen? also could someone let me know whether you need a high int for chiv spells? my current str is 113, dex 75, int 65

Thanks

Re: Chivalry is dead

Lose focus or meditation for healing. Chiv is not the best for healing and bandages will keep you alive. If you wear metal non mage armour then keep focus. If medable armour or only leather then keep meditation.

If your an archer you should stay out of range of your enemies and not get hit. You'll notice bigger hits when you GM anat and tactics.

I would drop some INT for DEX too. 50 should be enought INT for a pally and aim for 100 DEX this will speed up your rate of fire. Divine fury with a repeating crossbow is fun.

Re: Chivalry is dead

Additional:

If you keep focus do it in steps of 20 for mana regen or steps of 10 for stamina regen.
http://uo.stratics.com/content/skills/battlefocus.shtml

Higher DEX also speeds up bandaging youself, check on Stratics for more details here: http://uo.stratics.com/content/skills/healing.php

Upping you DEX from 75 to 100 will shave 2 seconds of your self bandage time. Could just keep you alive. Plus 90 is enough in healing for most people giving you 10 spare points to scroll a skill perhaps.

Re: Chivalry is dead

You've got plenty of skill points left to add Healing without dropping Focus or Med.

BUT I'd drop 1 or the other and add Magic Resist. As an archer your fighting tactics should be to never stand next to a monster, leaving the only ways to get damage up to ranged attacks (mostly spells) and Magic Resist will lower the effects of certain spells (curse, weaken, paralyze, etc.) and have the chance to block some (poison).

Re: Chivalry is dead

I'll agree with what I've heard so far. You reach a new plateau of survivability when you add Healing and Magic Resist to a Paladin.

Adjust your stats so that DEX is highest, followed by STR at around 100 (or even a bit lower) and INT between 40=50. Be sure to buy a good stat scroll (+25 if you can afford one).

You can consider adding Bushido to your template. This is a damage multiplier, and the Evade spell means that you take much more damage than a pure Paladin can.

Acquire a Swamp Dragon and equip it with Dragon Barding (exceptional quality only), this will absorb 20% of all PVM damage that you would otherwise take. Swampies are sort of goofy-looking at present, but the UO:KR version looks really good.

Look at your armor set carefully. How close are you to 70 in all resists? Try to improve your suit.

Pick bows that help you with the monsters you fight. Use slayers for double damage whenever possible. Look for jewelry with lots of HCI to maximize the number of hits your archery does.

Good luck!

Re: Chivalry is dead

A bow with the 'balanced' property will also allow you to drink potions without disarming.

Do barding deeds absorb that much? I thought normal took 5% and exceptional 10%?

10% for a normal deed, 20% for an exceptional deed.

10 normal adn 20 Ex as Rhus stated. IMHO, no PvM warrior should be without one. Unless youre riding a Lesser Hiryu for the battle help.

To the OP, look at your armor. Like Rhus stated, you want to be as close to 70 in each resist. All 70s and a Armored swamp dragon = dramatic increase in survivability no matter where you go.

My Paladins template:

115 fencing
110 Anatomy, Tactics, Parry
GM Focus, Healing
75 Chiv

105 Str
110 Dex
50 Int

Now the stats are modified by my armor as is the Parry but this guy is pretty tough. Not the uber-warrior, but he can hold his own most anywhere with a little dancing while Im waiting for a bandage to heal me.
