Capturing UO gameplay to video,

After seeing tome fairly OK vidoes on YouTube of UO gameplay, as well as some fairly BAD ones, I'm trying to figure out how it's done (other than pointing a webcam at the screen). Does anyone know?

Re: Capturing UO gameplay to video,

I am not sure if it works on UO but on other games most people use FRAPS.

fraps.com I think is the site.

Re: Capturing UO gameplay to video,

Yeah, FRAPS is the one Ive heard the most about. Bit of a resource hog I think...capturing the game in .avi is like 2 screens a second getting captured, so it take a bit of CPU time...

Ahhhh, thank you very much, both of you.

Hopefully my system will power through it. I'll have to look into it later tonight.

Re: Capturing UO gameplay to video,

I've been meaning to get into making some videos of UO. You see hundreds of them for other games, especially WoW which entices more people to play as things spread by word of mouth and they can see the game cracking before buying it or having to trial it. Last thing I tried managed to utterly decimate my ability to do anything worthy of a video by reducing me to 5fps though

Re: Capturing UO gameplay to video,

There should be some scalability to it where it grabs the screencaps at a ridiculously low resolution which should certainly help the overall performance during video capture.

If you try to video at 1024x768, you better be running a screamer of a puter...

I have tried to run Fraps but for some reason it just doesn't work. Can someone post a step by step guide to taking a video capture with FRAPS on UO?

I don't know if you've tried this, but I have found that Fraps only works when UO is being played in "full screen" mode.

So:

Open fraps / set the hotkey to start recording
Open UO / change to fullscreen view using the display options (the fraps counter will appear in a corner of the screen)
Hit the hotkey to record
Hit the hotkey again to stop recording

This is what works for me, and I hope it also works for you

Hello I have finally decided joined UO Forums, must say it is a lot more pleasant, than all the childishness of UO Stratics, anyway, reason for this post, I have had trouble with Fraps unless I use full screen like as said above, so I did a little search and came across Growler Gun Cam software, lot more configurable and works in windowed mode :cheesy:
