What exactly is the error message?

This is not much of an idea but if you haven't pulled your sound card. Might try that. It sounds like you have tried all the standard fixes. Sorry I am not of any more help

So its patching up to about 25 you say?

Some silly questions.
-Is your Harddrive full?
-Is the folder (aka Directory) "Write Protected" ?
-Do you have administrator rights with the system account your using?

What I would try, and again, this is me.
- check folder properties and make sure its not "write protected" aka that anyone can read or write to the directory.
- find the file called "patchlog" no file extension. It'll have patch info in it if you open it with a text editor, look at the bottom and see what error(s) it lists, and the exact file(s). double check those files for read/write/modify properties.
-THEN delete the patchlog file

retry

Are you launching UO with or without UOAssist launching it?
I usually check the update.uo.com site for patch updates, and if I know a patch is out there, I start/patch UO without using UOAssist. Then I reboot, then launch with UOAssist. So basically, I patch without using UOAssist as the launcher.

Look in the folder/directory within UO's install for something called patch, and remove all files there-in.

Defrag your HD?

The problems you are having are not uncommon, and depending on a few things, easily worked around.

If you have reloaded windows and UO, it maybe something really simple, and if you can patch up to 25, its probably not a specific system/firewall issue persay.

Had this happen a couple of times and all I had to do was delete cookies and files from internet options and reboot.... Then the patch went through without issue. *shrug*

Let me ask you this does the graphics card have an or affect the sound card?
I have tried most of the stuff yall have suggested I am going to try the ones I have not done. It has all been helful imformation so far but some reason it still not working.
Since I know my sound card is bad I went ahead and bought another though most say that shouldnt affect the UO patch but it needs to be replaced anyways so we will see

Well Thank you guys/gals for all the advise. I did everything everyone said here and it still did not work. It did give me a lot more knowledge to problems that could happen
Good news is it is working now and though everyone I asked said the sound card wouldnt affect it. I installed a news sound card and now UO patched and I am able to log in. Any reason why that would be?

I remember the sound card issue back in 2001/2002 time frame. Yes, it could possibably have been the drivers shipped with UO, that got changed and caused problems. The EAX/EAU files that UO may use to drive the sound to the card, may have been too old to patch/update within UO, thus failing. Updating the drivers for the sound card for the system thus fixed any DLL
compatibilitys, thus allowing the patching to proceed since the locking or thread connects validated that the driver base was valid.

In short, UO tried to update its sound files, couldn't, because the new sound card drivers wouldn't accept the hooks UO was trying to pass. Basically, un-updated hardware drivers "can" effect patching (although it really shouldn't).

Glad its all fixed.
