can someone help me with...

What in the world is a Mage weapon?...All I can see is that it takes mage skill from you...Why in the world would u want that?...maybe at first, when trying to get the mage skill up, it would be of some help...In that it would be easier to progress in that skill...but I cant think of any other reason...thanks..

Re: can someone help me with...

The mage weapons with minus do help gain skills...You can find some that are spell channeling and do not affect your skills.sorry cant be more help but both my mages doncarry weapons or have a weapon skill. Mage weapons if you have weapons skills on your template should be spell channeling. ( i think ) lol

Because you can train magery that way when you are in combat, or because if you have say 120 magery, and you equip a -20 weap or better yet a -0 mage weapon, you while wielding that weapon have that amount of weapon skill...IE 120 mage-20 from weapon=100 skill in that weapon type. And if it's spell channeling, you've still got your magery to boot.

If they changed it and I'm wrong, please correct me, someone teehee

Perfect. = )

I find them useful occasionally with my mage/poisoner for the reasons above. I can have 100-[120??[120 not confirmed, I dont have +20 scroll] weapon skill for poisoned blades if I don't have a weapon skill trained on my character to make a poisoned blade useful. If a mage has poisoning, they can be very useful indeed.

That would be the best use, other than for skill gain. The mage weapons have made me think of dropping tactics/weapon skill altogether, as they are 2 skills my mage really doesn't need as much anymore. The tactics does help a bit, but Im seeing the weapon points as a waste. It makes me wish I kept wrestling, and didnt train swords/tactics up on one of my mages. Pre-Renesaince I used to kick ass at PvP though.

[Edit:: Sorry I stated incorrectly... it wouldn't be useful for what I said because you can't use the abilities without the skill of 70/90.... I didn't notice until I just tried using a kryss instead of a knife/cleaver.]] Darn, I thought I could use the fencing weapons I was collecting....

Re: can someone help me with...

I used a -0 mage weapon on any mage template I may be playing with if they have a chance of getting hit, especially if I have no eval.

I don't remember the formula, but I believe if you are not wielding a weapon your defense against wrestling of mobs is *snipped to remove bad info*. So, if your magery - mage weapon is higher than that, it is usually better to equip the weapon.

Not to mention, it makes for some interesting possibilities. The staff of pyros is actually a pretty decent weapon, and if you pick up tactics/anatomy you can have two earth elems in front of you takign damage and a pretty decent melee damage output.

From Publish 16:

======== Unarmed "to-be-hit" changes (chance to get hit while unarmed is now the better of either Wrestling skill, or an average of Anatomy & Evaluate Intelligence). ========

How high is your Wrestling VS How high is your "Average" of Anatomy+Eval.... Yeah Prob be best to base it off your Magery, if that will work....

I'm thinking it might not though.......because of the reason I can't use fencing to poison...
Due to the lack of the actual skill...
True the mage weapon will boost it to allow for hitting, but does that work for defense calculations as well??? Because ultimately your using magery skill, and not wrestling skill, or anatomy+eval skill....
My guess is the mage weapon ends up making you use the Anatomy/Eval by default?? Due to weapon in hand, therefore removing the wrestling calculations....[[IF you had wrestling]...

Can anyone answer this??

Anyways... It would be interesting and useful to know forsure. Because it'll help me choose which skills and items to keep/train/throw away.

Re: can someone help me with...

Ask anyone who uses swords of prosperity, it does work for defense.

Now, as to whether it uses it for poisoning, I have no idea.

You can't use special movies with a mage weapon, but they do work for damage/chance to hit/chance to defend the same as having that weapon skill.

Re: can someone help me with...

I asked this question and here is the link

http://www.uoforums.com/f281/mage-weapon-skill-45548/

Ok but I am going to make it short.

Lets say this is your template
120 mage
120 eval
120 Med
120 SS
120 Necro

You equipment yourself with a diamond mace that has -20 mage weapon skill. Your magery drop to 100 but now you are a GM macer. However, you cannot use the special because you do not have tactics.
