Awful Performance

Hi, I'm playing UO KR trial atm. I've not played it much because the performance is so bad. I seem to jump around the screen instead of walking.

I have a 2.8Ghz Dual Core processor with 1GHz of Ram, a 512mb graphics card and windows Vista. So my computer shouldn't be a problem.

I've tried it at different resolutions, both windowed and full screen mode and its still barely playable.

My drivers are all up date, no viruses/spyware etc, no extra programs running in the background, my ISP performance is fine.

Anyone know whats causing the problem?

Welcome to UO Forums and to UO EvilVampyre

KR is in beta. Hopefully you are beta testing KR not just playing it . There are several known issues with it being slow/crashing. Hopefully the next few patches will clear those up and we can find more bugs/problems for them to fix before they release KR .

Re: Awful Performance

Beta? Odd. I downloaded this as a trial, my account also says its a 14 day trial.

But thanks for the info anyway. I used to play UO ages ago, was the first MMO I ever played *happy memories*

Aye, just stick it out for a few weeks if your trial time will last and hopefully it will be runnin smoothly soon. There is also a 2d (older version that isn't in beta) version of UO that should work a lot better if you are playing UO to learn the game, and not just for the graphics.

Re: Awful Performance

Your problem is you only have 1GB of ram using Windows Vista. You need at least 1.5 GB of ram on a Vista Pc. A good chunk of your ram is being used just to load Vista up. Not leaving much memory for gaming. The following is a mapping from XP RAM to Vista RAM requirements for equivalent performance.

XP RAM Vista RAM
128 MB 512 MB
256 MB 1 GB
512 MB 1.5 GB
1 GB 2 GB

UO KR as it is now has not been fully optimized so it's memory hungery and has memory leaks, UO KR in the process now at ironing out these issues. You it's a good idea to install at least another 1GB of ram.Your system is severely bottlenecked at the moment. Also remember Vista runs slower than Windows xp for gaming on PC's with the same specs so that's adding to the problem.

Re: Awful Performance

Re: Awful Performance

Hmm, thanks for that Full Circle, kinda makes sense as I've been having trouble with another game (Silver Fall). My original plan was to put the 1GB of ram I had in my old computer into this one, but they are different speeds, so I ended up with just the 1GB that it came with

Time to get some more ram then I guess, bah. I wish I could hav e a cheaper interest!

EDIT: I know this isn't the right place to ask really, but I cant find my computer manual, and I've forgotten what speed my RAM is, anyone know how to find out? Thanks.
