It would be nice if stratics used a *real* DBMS like Oracle instead of that freeware MYSQL crap. You get what you pay for. I'm sure recovery tools on MYSQL are a little less... comprehensive than an Oracle DB.

Just wanted to drop by and let you all know that we are now able to and are working to get a set of TEMPORARY forums put in place until the recovery process is completed.

Please be aware, at this time we have no plans to merge any posting data that is posted on the TEMPORARY forums we will be getting up soon. However, we might try and keep such data if it seems like it would be well worth it. That part of the TEMPORARY forums is still up in the air.

As well, everyone will need to register on the TEMPORARY forums to post as the user database will be inaccessible on the TEMPORARY forums while it is being recovered.

Once the TEMPORARY forums are in place, one of us will come here and let you know!

However, progress is being made! The tech teams have been able to complete the recovery of the EVE-ONLINE (http://eve.stratics.com/) and WARHAMMER (http://war.stratics.com/) Web Sites (there's still an issue with WAR being accessible however, it should be up soon!)!


Once again, our deepest apologies for what has transpired and the lengthy time this is taking to get the forums and sites recovered. We do not expect to see a significant loss in user data. Some of the newest users might end up having to re-register, however. We'll keep you posted!

Thanks for the update, Orvago! I'm glad to hear at least some of the data has been recovered. I'm sure that will help keep the techs' spirits up!

Data loss can occur due to a variety of reasons.

Yep. Corrupted storage media, physical destruction of equipment (fires, floods, freak accidents), all sorts of things can cause data to be lost. And I do believe this incident involved a third-party data center, so I'm sure it's part of the SLA to not discuss it.

But, "emergency maintenance," plus data loss, plus the fact that a site that makes money from advertising down for well over a week?

I ain't saying it's the only explanation.

I am saying, however, that once upon a time, UOLS was the linchpin of the LS community for many years.

Repeated hackings later, finally some hacker REALLY did a job on it, and now it's dead, likely never to return.

I believe they're going to post a fuller explanation when the sites are all fixed, but I do know, they weren't hacked.
I'm not going to post what I DO know, out of respect of the fact the info probably wasn't meant for "general public" awareness, so to speak.
