My main concern is adding yet more stuff to the main page

I guess i'm overly paranoid, but one of the main issues people had with the site, was the hugely long main page
I did trim it down quite abit by compressing some forums into sub forums

I don't think it'll be an issue, least I hope not

Using the same setup as the shard forums sounds like a decent plan, and not overwhelming for the main page view.

I could go either way on this. If you wanna do it, awesome, if you don't, that's fine too. Either way I mostly answer questions than ask them, so it doesn't really affect me much.
